Wiring Question Newbie needs help

Hello I am hoping some one can help me with my first set-up. Here is my question I plan on using and HDMI cable to connect my digital cable box to my Plasma and then another HDMI cable to connect my DVD to the Plasma as well. Now come the question how do I get audio through my reciever as it doesn't have any HDMI connectors. I was planning on running seperate wires from the cable box and the DVD to the reciever. Will this work will this allow me to get audio through my reciever for both compnets? Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated because at the moment I am totally confused. Thank You

Your cable box and player both should have different flavors of audio out jacks and your receiver should have different flavors of audio in jacks.

I'd use digital coax connection if it exists ...

I am in the same boat. Im going to use optical cable from my TV to the receiver.

I am using a similar setup and am running a Canare based coax cable from the STB and DVD to my reciever. Your choice between optical and coax if you have both outs on your gear.
