I heard and saw in the news that LG Electronics presentated HD-DVD & Blue-Ray combo player at CES 2007 show in Las Vegas. This is exaclty what I was waiting for.

Great news for all of us, isn't it! Now all we want the same from DENON and Pioneer Elite to do. How about DVD/CD/HD-DVD/Bluray/SACD/DVD Audio etc. all in one in solid player with HDMI 1.3 true 1080p output.;)
Panasonic TH-50PX80U Plasma HDTV
Polk Audio RT800i (fronts)
Polk Audio CS400i (center)
Polk Audio F/X1000 (side surrounds)
Polk Audio RTi6 (back surrrounds)
Velodyne CHT-15 (subwoofer)
Yamaha RX-V1400 (Pre/Pro)
NAD C272 (2-ch Amp)
Adcom GFA-7605 (5-ch Amp)
Toshiba SD-3109 (DVD/CD player)

A step in the right direction but not a player to buy. An LG product at $1,200, and LG did not get approval from the DVD forum for HD-DVD so it doesn't support iHD. Basically, it's a bust.

Ron loves a film = don't even rent.

It is really a bluray player with a laser that can play hd-dvd but you wont have all of the menu features that come with it. I wont buy it im going to wait for a true dual format system.

I think it will all go away before it ever gets figured out. They are showing more and more hard drive based formats and the future seems to be downloadable movies, etc. Look how music has done. That was pretty much the buzz from a lot of my factory buddies out here. Also, the arguments about what HDMI will pass, etc. Unless it's version 1.3, it' can't pass everything anyway. That's what's keeping the big audio companies from choosing which side of the fence they want to play on.

The companies that I rep are the same way. They "may" make a player to do both or they may do separate units...but they aren't sure about it being all in one. But believe me...there is a TON of talk about the future of movies for purchase being download. It wouldn't do Sony any good if they combine them and, if it's not good for Sony, they won't do it. Who knows in this crazy business. I just go on selling the equipment that we rep and make my money where I can! lol. I for one won't buy either format yet. If one of them gives me one, I'll take it though! lol

From what I hear from experts and read on the net it looks like HD-DVD will be the format that will win and Blu-ray will be for mass storage. But I can be wrong. If a true dual format player comes out and the price is good I will buy it but I cant see spending a grand on a player that might not be the standard to get. Hopefully they will sort the mess out soon.

Besides, I bought my combo-player for almost $200 less then LG's player. ;) I just stacked my BD-P1000 on top of my HD-A1.

from what I read it looks like they are going to make a disc with HD-DVD on one side & BR on the other, with the cost being the same as a regular DVD.
