jolida cdp issue

I have had a jolida jd100 cdp sitting on the shelf for the last 8 months doing nothing. I tried some different tubes (ei elite) that I had not used before and I was hearing a constant ticking sound. I thought it was because the new tubes were bad but I put the old ones in this evening, that I was using previously(Sovtek) and it is still doing this. I did not have this issue before that I am aware of. Any suggestions as to the cause.
Thank you in advance
Mike

Constant ticking through your speakers, or a constant ticking physically coming from the CDP?DKG999

Through the speakers. It is fainter than with the ei's but it is still there. I was auditioning some gear this evening for a potential purchaser and he said he could not hear it from the listening position (about 8 feet). I could here it sitting off to the side at about 4 feet.

I don't know what that could be. Try turning off and on again...might reset something.Political Correctness'.........defined

This has actually been ongoing problem since I refired it up. I just put my ear against the player spinning a cd with no output. I could hear it spinning but the sound didn't seem uniform.

I will look into that tomorrow. Maybe I did something to the tray when I put the ei elites in. However, I notice that my DVD player is quite noisy as well when it is spinning but it doesn't get picked up by the player and transmitted through the speakers. Is it safe to play a cd with the top off? Thanks Jesse.

Just thought of another thing, make sure the tubes are seated all the way. Those sockets are really tight and you have to press down pretty hard on the tube to seat them properly.
I've also heard that the Jolida doesn't like to play well with some tube pre amps. Have you changed pre amps since you last played the Joilda?Political Correctness'.........defined

Nope same gear. I will try and seat the tubes better. Thanks again Jess

Alright, somewhat embarrassed of my lack of competence but here goes.
I came home from work today, made sure the tubes were deeply seated and refired it up. The problem remained however. I previously thought it was weird how half of the board with the tubes in it were attached to the chasis and the other half was just resting on these "pins". It was like this when I got but it didn't result in any issues. I looked into this further and realized that there were holes under the chasis for screws that go into these "pins". So I went to The Source by Circuit City (more like Radio Shack than the American Circuit City) and purchased a couple multi pack screws in the hopes that I would find ones that fit. Well I screwed the 2 missing screws in that pertained to that board along with tightening several others all over the base of the chasis.
I fired it up again, had time for about 4 songs before I had to step out and the problem did not show. I got home about 3 hours ago and it has been playing non stop without occurrence. So it looks like all is good. I wonder why it did not show before because these screws have been missing since I acquired the player. Maybe because the gear was setup differently and on different furniture.
Thanks for taking the time out to help,

Cool! The after-market audiophile screw modification. I bet it sounds like a $5000 CDP now :eek:DKG999

Interesting problem. I'm glad you found the solution. So, how do you like the Ei's?Political Correctness'.........defined

Actually, I think they are pretty similiar to the Sovtek's I had in there, just another little step forward in the resolution. I definately am not lacking any top end with them and the PS Audio cord like I did originally with the stock cord and that crappy EH tube. This player has a bit of a reputation as not being very resolving but with these additions that is totally not the case. It is definately very dynamic as well. In comparing it with the Consonance (which just sold this evening) it sounds more detailed and way more dynamic. Where the Consonance excels is the midrange and emotional involvement. Kind of like comparing SS to tubes. I plan on still selling this player, I am just really happy that the problem has been solved and now I can sell.
A local dealer allowed me to demo the Consonance Ref 2.2 MKII player in-house for a few days and I really fell in love with it. I found it to be very holographic and have a more overall hifi sound. This was with the stock tube as well. I have rolled this tube on my player and the tube that I put in really brought the player to life. Of course like anything these are systems and rely on synergy and people may find different things with their own gear etc. I will probably pick up that player later this week or, or, or maybe, dare I say it THE DROPLET.
This is just so much fun.
Thanks again for all the help,
