Got my stuff, now how do I wire it up

Okay, here is what I now have as my system

Pioneer VSX 816 (I can bi-amp the front channels)
Monitor 40's fronts (bi-amped)
Monitor 30's surrounds (bi-wired)
CS1 center
PSW10 sub

Now, I have always heard that you should keep the length of the speaker wire the same for all speakers the same. Will it make that big of a difference or am I okay to just make sure that the 3 front channels have the same length and the rear channels the same? I have seen the speaker wire that is to be used behind sheetrock(or through the attic), but do I have to use that to run wire to my surrounds or can I just use a high quality cable. Price is definitely a factor in all this, but I want the sound to be as great as I possibly can. Thanks in advance and all opinions are appreciated.

Eric
I know just enough to be dangerous, but don't tell my wife, she thinks I'm a genius. :D

No reason to keep all the cables the same length. I like to keep the front speakers the same length, but I doubt it makes any difference. And the run to my surrounds is 30ft., it would be silly to use 30ft. cables on the fronts and center, when they are only 10ft. from the amps.

As far as in-wall speaker wire, in most areas it is code, but I do not have in-wall wire to my surrounds. I just finished an addition and garage on my house, and I wired it, and the new garage, for speakers, I used in-wall because I had to have it inspected. They never even looked at it.

You gan get it fairly cheap here:

    WilliamM2:

    Thanks for the link!

I'm in the same boat as Eric (new VSX 816, PSW10 sub, CSi3 center, RTi4's front, CS60i for surrounds (in ceiling).

I"m now trying to find a good place to order cables and wires. I'm on a budget, so bang for the buck is important.

I found monoprice.com, but they're out of pretty much everything I need (speaker wire, S video cable, etc.).

Now I'm looking at parts express.com (and now accessories4less thanks to you).

Any other sites I should visit?

Thanks again for the response....definitely helped me out!

You can also check www.monoprice.com. They have some (not a great selection) speaker wire at very reasonable prices. They also have other cables that are very well made and very reasonably priced.

Rivet, welcome. Although there're unfortunately plenty of charlatans who've learned how handsomely they can profit by never underestimating the gullibility of some audiophiles, and who charge outrageous prices, there're also plenty of sources available at reasonable cost. Besides those already mentioned(MonoPrice is excellent), consider Total Signal and Triangle Cables . For wiring speakers, considering shipping costs, it may be more cost-effective to simply go to Home Depot, Lowes, or other local electrical or hardware suppliers which deal in lampcord.

You would be well advised to ignore ANYTHING johnny K. flaps his gums about concerning audio. His idea of high fidelity is his Sony boombox.

I'll listen to all opinions, but.....

The "lampcord" comment was a dead giveaway.

Thanks for the links everyone. I'd like to order everything from monoprice, but like I said, they're OUT of everything! They won't get more speaker wire in until the end of this month. I just picked up my Polk Speakers last night.....no way I can wait another month before hooking them up!!

Accesories4Less looks like they'll have what I need at decent prices.

I'm really glad I stopped by this forum....I'm learning a lot!

    You're a wise man.

You might want to look at Signal Cable, which seems to be a forum favorite. I believe gives Club Polk members at 5% discount.
