OPPO DVD Player

Well, I just pulled the trigger on an OPPO DV-981HD 1080p High Definition Up-Converting Universal DVD Player with HDMI. My JVC LCoS display is only capable of 720p/1080i, so I realize I won't be able to take advantage of OPPO's 1080p upconversion feature, but from what I've read from you guys and elswhere, the picture should be a significant improvement over my Sony megachanger's progressive scan 480i feature.
I was seriously contemplating upgrading to Sony's 400-disc upconversion megachanger, but I just couldn't fathom spending that kind of money - plus, I'm betting that the DCDi technology by Faroudja will outperform Sony's upscaling technology (and my Sony megachanger can't even be daisy-chained, either). Although it will be a bit of an inconvenience to take a disc out of the Sony megachanger every time I want to see it upconverted in the OPPO player, I will still use the megachanger, as it is still a great place to store, organize, and play DVD's that still look great.
Comments are welcome, as usual.

I just ordered the 981 also. I was wondering: Since my '04 55-513" Mit CRt does not have HDMI and only has DVI. Does the DVI/HDMI adapter lessin the picture quality? Will I loose anything by not going straight HDMI?

You should have no problem with the DVI to HDMI or HDMI to DVI adaptors; As some say, digital is digital and as long as all the 1's and 0's get there, there should be no noticable difference._________________________________________________

SOPAThank God for different opinions. Imagine the world if we all wanted the same woman -
both HDMI and DVI are digital and I think there will be NO picture quality difference for both. the only gain when using HDMI/HDMI is you have both audio and video.

Thanks guys...I'm not worried about audio to the tv anyways... HDMI and IEEE 1394 are not compatable ..are they?

How can a DVI/HDMI adapter be $32 @ BBuy and only $4 @ monoprice.com?

Yes the HDMI and DVI are the same as far as Video goes so the converter is just a pin converter only.

There are some adapters that use resistors and such to modify the Fr of the signal to whatever its adapting for. I just didnt know if this was the same case...Thanks for clearing it up for me.

Then the 981 should look excellent on my Mit @ 1080i.Monitor 7b's front

Thanks for the replies, guys. And yes, I agree with everyone else on the DVI/HDMI conversion - just a pin-to-pin connection and there should be no degradation in video quality whatsoever.Mains: polkaudio RTi70's (bi-wired)

Actually, reading around on AVS Forum there is a difference betweem HDMI video and DVI. I think DVI is limited to 8-bits whereas the HDMI can go to at least 10 on the 1.0 standard and maybe 12 on 1.1 or 1.2 standards. They say this can really help the blacker-than-black and whiter-than-white information.
