I hate admitting when I'm Wrong!

This is kind of a new hobby to me. I have always had good equipment since I was about 16. Now I am just looking to refine myself, and my taste in music. I snickered at expensive interconnects. Now I have a pretty decent 2 channel setup. On some of the posts I have seen I have laughed about some of the claims people were making. After reading a lot of post here, and at DIY audio I have decided to make some interconnects for myself. I bought different types of wire, and some Nuetrik ends. After comparing different cables I have come to the conclusion that the cat5 solid core wires made a "REAL" difference. With the solid wire interconnects everything is much tighter. I can now hear the resonances of the piano strings when a note is hit, bass is tighter, and I thought symbols, rings, and bells sounded real before. All I can say is wow! If you don't believe; your system or your ears are not sensitive to the resolution that Hi Fi has to offer.

I humbly stand corrected

Ben

Its amazing how much the sound stage opened up. I'm running SDA2's with a GFA-555, And I thought yeah they sound nice but I wasn't overly impressed. After the interconnect upgrade they sounded like a whole new set of speakers. I will be listening to my collection again.

I can remember when I first got into audio, entry level at best, I had no problem with thinking that wire made a difference and got the best I could afford at the time.

If you think that Cat5 sounds good, wait until you try some of the better stuff.

    You ain't heard nuthin' yet!

Like you, I started by making my own wire. Now I have speaker cables that retail for $675 and they got freakin' batteries attached to 'em. Go figure.

Just bought a couple more interconnects that retail for $195/pair. That's actually a bargain at $65/foot!!!

    This is your future...

You have to view cables like they are components and be prepared to spend just as much for them 'cause if your cables are weak, it doesn't matter how good your gear is.

    crabby apples= bitter pie.

    You guys are soooooooooo right.

The evil F1 is no help as we discuss a 4,000 a meter cable, ok 2,000 or so used but I need a 2 meter and it needs to be xlr. But what if??? I might be able to try it for 400.00 demo fee or so, but gotta get a new one then no used, I could settle for the lesser model at about 600.00 for a meter, but I need a 1.5 or 2 meter, so what that going to cost and its lesser.

Yea, I know Jesse I am the one that keeps yaking about these cables. Another amp would be nice as well, and some new speaker cables, and a new conditioner, and two nice amp stands. I need a rich old lady on the side who just wants to talk, you guys got one your tired of?

I mean its only money. Just alot of it.

    Yikes, bad jones today.

    Keep card in wallet.

    Turn off computer.

Psst.........you know you want it, you have the cash...........

The "sweet spot" on cables is actually not very high in price, in my experience. I won't ever go beyond my Kimber Hero's and 8TC's as there is no need to; both are somewhat reasonably priced.

personally.. i don't think you need to spend huge amounts of $$ on interconnect cables. BUT, you do need to try several different brands to find the one that works best with your gear.

I'm running Adcom amps and a variety of classic Polk's all with the mw woofers. the solid cores seem to sound better than the stranded except now I have to change all my SL2500 tweets and caps. Is that what the general consensus is?

    Thanks Ben

I am hoping that that the way I'm going to find out is getting some opinions from people who know. I literally have about $30 to my name. That includes all available credit. Jessie you know about my 7 month involuntary vaca. I own a computer repair business. I am said business. I lost a lot of my customers. This is the worst time of year for my type of business. So knowledgeable opinions on which direction to start would be great. many of you have tried many types of cables, and that just isn't feasible for me. Adcom setups with SDA's, RTA's and monitors seem to be very common place here.

    Thanks

Maybe you should build up the bank account before doing anything else at this point. Food and shelter really are more important. :)

    Aww.......say it ain't so.

I had a great weekend, stayed off the board, bought about 20 new discs and enjoyed listening to them against the vinyl, it was grand, although I did have gas, the Woodshed was a bit ripe when I poked my head in this morning to say goodbye to the gear for the day.

OK I had a friend come over today to hear my home brewed SDA's. When I set it up I didn't have enough quality ICs to connect it properly. I actually had some came in the box ICs. When he got here they were loud, had bass, but I told him something wasn't right with the mids. I have actually been contemplating different amplification/amplification. He had some Strait wire Encore 2's that I tried out, and wow. Now they had pretty good imaging. Beautiful smooth mids, and tighter bass. I know most people here know about ICs. I just wanted to post for the inexperienced to get a read, and also for people who have similar setups to have to sift through less wires to reach the desired result. Its a tough decision between PBJ's and Strait wire Encore 2's In a couple weeks I will do another test to try to nail down the best combo. I am also using an electronic crossover so that can also help differentiate which wire is better for highs and lows. I wish more people were around here to do a comparison with their different wires. Any ways back to more research.

    Latest update
I just built some cat5 interconects with neutrik connectors. They sound exxcellent. I would compare them with the PBJ's. Imaging comparable to the Encores. I will have to do an AB with them to really know, also I will need to hear both in pairs to compare sound staging.
    Ben

Edit new cables were much better than rca, and philips. Encore deffenetely better than cat5's. The wire I had is pvc insulation not teflon. I don't know how much of a difference that make, but I will fairly soon. How does silver sound with Adcom?
