Crossover Settings for Center & Surround Speakers

I just bought the RM6900 and an Onkyo TX-SR674 and have read the articles about Bass management.
It tells you about the settings for the front l/r speakers, but not the center or surrounds. My receiver does not have a small setting, it is either Full Range (Large) or specific crossover settings of 40,50,60,80,100,120,150, or 200. Should I set the other speakers to Full Range (Large) and let the internal speaker filter do the work or is there a recommended setting?

It depends on what you have for speakers. If they are small speakers with 5 1/4 inch drivers or less I would set them at around 150. If they are 6 1/2 inch drivers I would set them at 100. Anything bigger I would set to 60 or large. We really need to know what speakers you are driving to give accurate advice.

Yep -

Set all crossovers at 150hz to start (try higher than that and see if you like the sound as well). Plug the the sub into the AVR from the sub out port.

In the AVR set sub to on and all speakers to 150hz or above crossover (including the fronts).

I have a Onkyo TX-SR304 amp.

According to your "spec" sheet (online) you have 3.5" speakers and your subwoofer is 12".

Your speakers are the same size as my RM10's are and Polk tech support told me mine is (designed) set at 150 so yours probably are too.

My center speaker is set at small and my back speakers are set to "Small".

My fronts are (auto) set to full because I answered "No" to Subwoofer. It's in the "Sp Config" menu if your amp is like mine. I'm using the "bass management" connections.

BTW, I have my "Crossover" setting (in the "Sp Config" menu section) set to 40. I believe it's for the subwoofer because I'm using "bass management" and my system sounds real good.

Good for you! You should be set to go...

It depends on how the system is going to be hooked up. If you
plan on using the "sub out' jack from the receiver to "LFE" input on the
sub then 120 Hz is the appropriate crossover frequency, with all
speakers set to this and none set to large.

How do you figure considering the speakers have a filter built into them that stops all frequencies lower than 150hz? 150hz would be the minimum that I would start with (and I would experiment with higher than that as well). I know the sub will be able to be localized at that high of a crossover, but that is one of the comprimises you make when you get a sub/sat system.

That was the response that I got back from Polk's support via e-mail when I asked them the exact same question as the first post.

Could you check Polk's e-mail again? I was looking at my notes from when I called Polk. I just want to make sure they're correct.

I wrote down that the sub's setting was supposed to set all the way up (160) if I had chosen to use the LFE connection instead of "bass management".
