Component Video Issue

Alright! I'm stuck.
I have a HK AVR340, Panny TV, RCA DVD and digital cable box. I connected component video from the HK's out to the comp 1 input on the TV. I connect the comp from the DVD to the HK's comp 1 and the S-vid from the cable box to the HK's vid 2. The HK will upconvert the S-vid no problem. It will also show the OSD no problem. But the DVD display is wrong. It is washed out and very dark. Funny thing is, when I connect the DVD directly to the TV, it works fine.
So, the TV is fine, the DVD is fine, and the HK's comp out is fine, and so is it's upconversion. So what's up with the straight thru comp from the DVD? I just don't get it. What setting am I missing? Is there something on the HK that needs to be set to allow the comp video to pass thru properly (the HK user manual is not that great)?
Any help would be appreciated.

(if the HK doesn't have a dvd input, use vid 1).Win7 Media Center -> Onkyo TXSR702 -> Polk Rti70 -
I'm fairly certain I did (can't check right now). But if I didn't, I would imagine I would get NO video coming through. There is video visible, it just looks wrong (like one of the connections is bad, or something). But I checked all that, and tried other cables. The same cable works fine when directly connected to the TV.
The HK is new, but could one of the Comp inputs be bad? How would I test that? -
You could try connecting your dvd to the comp 2 input on the hk, and assigning comp 2 to dvd in the hk settings.
PS. A common factory default setting would be: comp 1 is associated with vid 1 (cable input), and comp 2 is associated with dvd. But I don't remember what HK does, it has been 2 years since I had one.Win7 Media Center -> Onkyo TXSR702 -> Polk Rti70 -
sounds like a cable problem... from the DVD player or the DVD player component RCA outputs may be bad. do you have another DVD player with component outputs you can swap in it's place?PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

But when I go directly from the DVD player to the TV with the same cable, everything is fine. -
then it sounds like your HK receiver.. do you have any other component video going into and out of your HK? LIke a cable box?PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Not yet. I haven't tried the second comp input, but will when I get a chance. -
There are two component inputs to the receiver - did you try using your DVD player with the OTHER input? To see if maybe Component Input 1 is bad?If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
