I am bi-wiring my new polk speakers and changing the speaker setting to A+B on my amplifier. My amplifier manual says to adjust it to 4ohms instead of 8. Is this right?

Why are you changing anything/settings on the amplifier if you are bi-wiring? Are you trying to bi-amp?

Not Bi-amping, just bi-wiring. The amplifier manual says to set to 4 instead of 8 but this was in reference to using two sets of speakers (A+B). Since I have to use A+B on my amplifier in order to bi-wire, I'm not sure if I have to set to 4 or not.

I'm a little confused on exactly what you are trying to acomplish here?

Bi-wiring is really a simple procedure of using two pairs of speaker wire ran from one (bi-ampable) speaker to one output/channel on the amplifier. You don't need to change any ohm settings on the amp, leave it at 8 ohms.

By switching to A and b switch, you are takeing the amp section of your receiver and diviiding it into 4 speakers.Leave it on A and run 2 sets of cables to your speakers to bi-wire.Or one set of bi-wire cables.Connect both sets to ONE set of posts on the receiver and run to your speakers.Simple way to bi-wire off a receiver.Leave it at the A switch and 8 ohm setting

Better yet, replace the stock jumpers with high quality wire and forget bi-wiring.

Agreed this will provide the same performance as bi-wiring.

I find that using just a second pair of Banana plugs on the speaker side and cuting two strips of decent ga wire roughly 5 inches long each is clean and easy. I did it recently with my RTi8's and actually noticed an improvement in the lows.

To the op, you DON'T use an extra set of speaker wires and send them to the B speaker on your Receiver.

If your using Banana connectors you can cut two strips of wire long enough to complete the connection from the speakers posts and plug the one end into the existing Bananas to form a splice then the other ends to a new set of bananas. You will have 4 banana connectors on one side and the normal 2 connectors going to your Receiver. Just make sure you a red to red and blk to blk, hope this make sence.
