Yes, this is a great competition. To Some people (sales man included) the Yamaha AVR are better than Marantz. To the Other people (other sales man included) Marantz rules. I don´t know...

In a receiver comparison, it is almost always a feature based decision as opposed to an sight/sound based decision.
Get the one that has all the bells and whistles you want, as they will all drive any RTi but the 12s nicely.
Personally, I would choose a Marantz for the remote. I bet no salesman said that...........HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

The Yamaha will be bright, IMO. The Marantz will be quite smooth in comparison.Michael

Don't forget to take a good look at DenonPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

My personal preference is the Marantz. My opinion is that it has a very neutral sound, not digital or analytic. SMOOTH. Check out accessories4less.com
They've got some "B" stock receivers beginning at $269. They are an authorized factory dealer with full warranty.Carl
