Sony STR-DE685

Just posting this in the slim possibility that one of you can help me out. I have a Sony receiver (STR-DE685) that's giving me some trouble. The front two speakers keep cutting out (especially at low volumes). If I turn the volume up they'll cut back in, but it has to be turned up pretty high. I replaced the cables, and tried different speakers, and the problem persists. If anybody has any tips as to what's happening, and what (if anything) I can do about it, i'd be more than happy to listen. The receiver isn't that old - maybe 4 years?

I'm not sure what is causing the issue. I'd suggest a new (non-Sony) receiver though. They are looked upon....unfavorably.
