Rti8 or rti10
I cannot decide which ones to get the rti10 or 8's. I have a yamaha htr-5740 receiver and I do not think it is really powerful enough for the 10's but I do not know. I mainly listen to music. I have a PSW 12 also. Im looking for a more richer and fuller sound in the high and mids area...

Hi. The Rti8 needs a SW and 505 is a good team with him. The Rti10 is less bright but has 2 little woofers. BUT I really think than is better sound and more complete Rti8+sw505. And you spend (may be) the same money. Now only the speakers is not a great difference to me, only more bass from the 10s.
-
I've got the Rti10's, but have auditioned the 8's. Both are bright and detailed. The 8's lacked bass and sounded thin to my ears. I got the 10's because they have a fuller sound and have good bass. If you can, audition them both and choose the one that floats your boat.

8's vs 10's; probably one of the most debated questions in this forum. I have the 8's and am very happy with them; I've got a good sub to fill in the lows.
You mention you listen to mostly music...then maybe the RTi line is not what you really want. They are great for HT, but as mentioned above, they are a bit bright for music; this is how I feel about them, and I'm not the only one.
You should probably look into something different; could be Polk or other brands; the LSi line is the best Polk offers for music, but you'd need to get separate amplification. Even so, I'd get the LSi line, since you might find the hard way that the RTi line is not for you. Auditioning them would be a great idea if you can.
Another option would be to get some vintages, Monitor 10's or 7's; great for music and you can find them cheap on ebay.
Good luck in your search._________________________________________________

I have the 8's matched with an energy sub and couldn't be happier..wait that is till I get my two other monoblocks.
One thing that was not mentioned is that even with the 8's I'm affraid your 5740 will not do your speakers justice. I pushed my 8s for a short period on a rxv 540 and it was ok at best. Moved on to my HK 335 and it's better, now in the process of buying my monoblocks. -
How can a the Harman Kardon be better than the yamaha if its only 55watts per channel. I was about to go with a Pioneer VSX-80TXV. What is so good about Harman Kardon. Should I go with Harman Kardon with my Rti8's?
-
yamaha has overinflated ratings. HK are more accurate along with having a bigger and better power supply than the yamaha. I'm by no means saying get a HK. If you like your yam with the 8s then keep it. I just found that my yammie at 80wpc was nothing near the 55wpc my HK has.

I have 8's and like them. I would say they are a better HT speaker because of the brightness when listening to music. However...after bi-amping my Rotel and giving them 200 watts/channel, they sounded much better. They're are still somewhat bright, but not nearly as so when powered by my H/K 635. I'd recommend getting a good sub too-give SVS a try! LSi's are out of my budget and I've been very happy with the 8's and have no plans to upgrade them.

Willow, you should be real happy when you get your amps. I have an HK 435 driving RTi8s and a CSi3, and they sounded OK, but when I added 3 Outlaw monoblocks, (to me) there was a great improvement in the sound of the system. -

Willow - Sorry for hijacking this guys thread, but thought it was worth telling you. If you are concerned with the musical nature of your setup after adding amps, you might want to check out the thread I started here...

I have a setup similar to yours and didn't notice a large difference in sound characteristics between my H/K 635 and the outlaw. I bought an ADCOM 555 since then for my fronts and every thing both music and HT sounds fantastic! I'm not telling you to cancel any plans with the outlaw's, they are awesome for HT, but at least give this thread a read since I was investigating a similar setup.HT

Thanks I have one mono on my centre right now and noticed a big difference. I use my system 80% HT and 20% music. So I think I will head the outlaw way. Thanks for your input though much appreciated. I'll keep it in mind when buying a 2ch system...way down the line right now...a_mattison wrote:Willow - Sorry for hijacking this guys thread, but thought it was worth telling you. I have the 8's w/ a good sub and wouldn't trade them for the world. For the price probably the best speaker around. Just got done doing a little Chicago and Steely Dan and they did a wonderful job. The sub filled in the lows and thinking of the HT capabilities of the 8's you can't go wrong for the price. Just my 2 cents. Whatever you choose, enjoy!

I have Rti8’s and like them a lot for HT application. Also, have Lsi15’s and the Rti8’s sound much better with my tube amp than the 15’s. If you like listening to music tube amp is absolutely awesome!!!………There is no “brightness” whatsoever and the sound is very bold, smooth and vibrant. Very detailed.
Rti8’s are fantastic speakers if mated with right components. My 2c.

So if I were to buy an amp would that add on to the receivers wattage or does the amp just act seperately according to the amps power rating? What would be a good amp to get that won't break the bank to go with the rti8's?
-
The amp will act separately ...
That depends on the size of the bank i.e. the budget ... -
what is "tube amp"?

Theyre kinda like wagon wheels. Worked well back in the day, but much better things are now available. *runs and hides*
But seriously, I always said the RTi8's were my favorite speaker for a speaker to do music and movies well but the other day while at Tweeter, I got to do some pretty good listening to the RTi series and the RTi10's are now my favorite.
I thought they had the perfect blend of midrange and midbass and while they could still benefit from a sub to get to those hard to reach 30-50 Hz notes, they still sounded great and Id have no problem running them without a sub.
You could always take the money youd spend on a sub and get a bigger amp and youd be set!polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

I've owned the RTi8's for about 6 months now and have no complaints. I have a SVS sub and have the fronts and centers set to small with with a 100 crossover.
The sound is bright and without a good sub you will be lacking bass. If this is the case then the 10's would be a better choice for you.
I'm running a Onkyo TX-SR504 and it is more than sufficient for these speakers though I wish it had a pre-amp out:(

I have the RTi10's and I am happy with them. They are great for Home Theater especially for my size room. I ran them untill recently with my Yamaha AVR with 85 per channel. I recently got a seperate amp off of ebay a H/K Sinature 2.1 with 100 per channel. The difference was quite noticeable. Even my wife noticed which is saying something. The amount of detail and clarity is way up from the AVR and the sound is much tighter. What I noticed the other night with the speaker grills off was that the mid range driver moves significantly less with the seperate amp than with the AVR. I can only assume that the amp has much better control of the sound/signal and hence the tighter more detailed sound.
I think you would be quite happy with the RTi10's or the RTi8's and both would benefit from seperates. I am quite happy with my current set up but pretty sure I will upgrade to a 7.1 pre-amp and a better quality 2 channel amp(when funds allow) to power my mains for HT and for 2 channel and let my current amp handle the other 5 channels.
Happy New Year.I like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D
