DS/GBA games

My wife and I both bought Nintendo DS Lite's over the summer and have really gotten our money's worth from those little boxes! Fantastic little system.

I thought I'd ramble on a bit about the games that have sucked up a lot of my falling asleep/stress relief time... Know of any other great DS or GBA games I need to track down along these lines?

...

Age of Empires: Age of Kings - scaled down version for the DS- build towns, mines, farms in order to build military units and take over your neighbor.

Advance Wars: Dual Strike more fighting and less building than Age of Empires. Neotanks have the perfect balance of mobility and firepower, well, until they run up against a couple of Megatanks. Very addictive.

Final Fantasy ____ I'd never played a Final Fantasy game before and now I'm addicted - played through most (on the last boss) of IV for the GBA - and then III came out for the DS - wow... that has been very fun. I'm past what I thought was going to be the final boss (didn't realize there were four more...). I just recieved V for Christmas. I also picked up the I and II collection - and for nostalgia's sake - I tracked down a used copy of Phantasy Star Collection which is 1, 2, and 3 for the GBA. I loved these games back on my Sega Genesis.

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones Blending RPG with tactical battles - this one has also been a great game - sharing bits of the Age of Empires/Advance Wars games with traditional RPG type story lines...

Animal Crossing: Wide World My wife and I both got hooked on this for months - in fact she's still regularly playing. Definitely a "collection" type of game with no real goals except to fill the museum and collect items for your house. Nothing like a bit of fishing...

Mario Kart go kart racing with bombs and banana peels - very fun to go head to head with someone else...

New Super Mario Brothers 2d side scroller - blast from the past very well done. I found the timing and precision jumps and things a bit tougher than they would have been years ago... ha... Mini games on it are very fun to play head to head with someone else.

We also have several of the Brain Training games - all are definitely fun to fool around with for a bit (although I don't know about the whole 'training' aspect of it - definitely fun mind benders from time to time, though...)

Ironically, my Age of Empires game broke last night. It no longer boots up. Very odd. Only a week old.

Now the fun of tracking down where I threw the receipt!

    Hello

They are also releasing VI advance too which was FFIII on the Snes, probably one of the best FF ever made....

And you also should give the Golden Sun games a shot......

Golden Sun looks right up my alley - if I see a copy I'll probably pick it up. Thanks!

FF VI will likely be on my list when it comes out in a month or two. I skipped all Nintendo systems until getting this DS over the summer (I've had a 2600, Genesis, PS1 and xbox) - so it's kind of humorous I've missed out on FF entirely.

I've been playing Phoenix Wright for DS as of late and it is incredible, it is a must buy for the DS.

The game isn't action intensive but it sure is great at making you feel like a lawyer (the good kind)

Good for you two! I bought my first one (of two) almost a year ago and now I use my Lite all the time. My original one is a back up in case my Lite dies. I got it/them because I got sick and tired of TV commericals.
Animal Crossing: Wide World My wife and I both got hooked on this for months - in fact she's still regularly playing. Definitely a "collection" type of game with no real goals except to fill the museum and collect items for your house. Nothing like a bit of fishing...
I've played this game for almost a year and can't quit! I play it *every* night for at least an hour because I find it relaxing. I'm not good at those shoot 'em ups or racing games. I've got all my fossils and need seven paintings for the mesuem. I need four insects to complete that part of the museum. Fishing? I mostly suck at it.

Has she caught the mole cricket yet? You have to be fast(!) OR do what I did after many frustrating tries. I had my son come into my town with his DS and he dug for it. I stood on the other hole (opposite him/net at the ready). When it gets dug up it will exit the hole opposite of where the digger is standing. The netter has no problem catching him.
Mario Kart go kart racing with bombs and banana peels - very fun to go head to head with someone else...
I just zip around the tracks by myself. I'm not that good enough to even consider going WiFi with my son or on Nintendos Worldwide Server to play with others.

BTW, for X-mas I asked for a "Y" cord to I could hook it to my Onkyo amp. About an hour ago I just ran the cable. My son tested the hookup last week and says it works. I'll know shortly. I've got a few more balloons to shoot so I can get the golden slingshot. You might want to consider that hook up for your game playing. The DS speakers aren't that loud if there's "outside" noise around.

It's rated "up there" with Animal World + Mario Cart and is a "keeper" in my book.

I'm really enjoyed his first case. I just need more free time to do the others. I liked it because it used more brains than reflexes to play.

How do the other cases compare to the first one? Are they more "involved" or just as easy?

I understand that Phoenix Wright - Ace Attorney Justice For All is due out in January 2007.

I'm getting Hotel Dusk: Room 215 (aka Wish Room) when it comes out (hopefully) Jan. 22, 2007. It looks like it's going to be rated up there with Phoenix Wright.

No worries, it gets harder as you go along, more involved and of course, more fun.

One other Suggestion, I hear that the Fire Emblem series is fantastic for Gameboy advance and that Metroid Fusion is great as well.

Oh, OK. I was hoping that was the case (no pun intended).

I only got one Advance game so I could close up the open game port on my orignal DS.

I went nuts trying to catch one! I haven't succeeded yet. That's a great idea to have a digger and a netter. I still play now and then - she is far, far beyond me in the museum and furniture collecting. I do have all the fossils and most of the insects and fish.

And yes, I'm not fast enough for the shoot-em-up's much anymore either... Racing I find a lot of fun - but I don't worry about actually "winning"... ha. :)

I'm definitely a fan of Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones - I'd like to stumble across a copy of the first game (in the US at least).

I returned my Age of Empires to Best Buy - they didn't have one to replace it with. Oddly - neither did three other places we stopped by over the holidays. I'll pick it up again later - definitely a game I enjoy.

I started playing through Final Fantasy V over New Years Eve / Day - if you enjoy any of the FF's - they all keep to the same pattern, though they all toss in enough to keep them different enough to make it fun to play through them all. :-)

I didn't know if my idea would work until my son came to visit. After walking around a bit and heard that sucker, I knew he was mine!

My son and I finished the fossil sections of our museums first. I need four rare insects to finish that section off and I need seven paintings to finish that area off. It will be about a billion years before I get all the fish...

Oh, then you're like me in that respect! ;)
