This question has probably been answered here a hundred times but I have to ask it anyway.
What's the difference?
Which is best for movies/ music?
Should the sub be 'off' to change between 0-180?

it's a phase setting.. and whichever sounds best to you.. that's the correct setting. I set mine with music that has a good bass thump to it.. and you want the bass thump in time with the music.. that's what i understand as in phase or out of phase.. you'll know when the beat is in time with the rest of the music.
some subs have a dial.. so it's variable.. other have a 0 or 180 toggle switch.
Doe not need to be off to swtich between 0 and 180.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Many people cannot detect any difference when making phase adjustments, but sometimes measuring equipment can. The adjustment control is there so that you can keep the sounds coming from the subs from cancelling out the sounds from your speakers, or other subs.
Do you have an SPL meter?
If so, set it up in your prime listening position. Have someone watch it while you adjust the phase control. If there is one adjustment where the SPL level increases more than the rest - leave it there. If the adjustments don't make a noticeable difference on the meter, doesn't really matter where you leave it.
