Well, after years of having not enough space for a proper 5.1 system, I finally pulled the plug on a polk 5.1 system for my new media room. WOW!! I can't believe what I was missing coming from 2.0.
Here's my new setup:
Mains: Monitor 60s
centre: CS1
surround: monitor 30s
sub: PSW10
rec: Onkyo 574
So I put in fast&furious to test it out: amazing. There's so much that you miss if you're only running 2.0. I also tried out a Sting concert dvd and was amazed at the clarity of the acoustic guitar. I'll have to rewatch my dvd collection now.
Thanks for all of you who post info on this forum. It helped me make a purchase decision.
Any dvds you guys can recommend to get the full effects of 5.1?

Try some of the Star Wars, the LOTR trilogy, We Were Soldiers. There's alot of 'em with good soundtracks.

I know what you mean! I switched from an 8 to 9 year old Pro Logic (only) set up about three weeks ago. Amaze me!!
I'm rewatching my DVDs too! As for suggestions, I asked the same thing in the "Movies" section of this forum a little while ago. Read that thread...Be gentle, I'm new to all this...

Nice.. i don't have the Superbit version.. but i use BHD as one of my demo movies.. the helcopter scenes are a good surround sound demo material.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Oh Great Golly Jee-Willikers....
If Blue-Ray and HD DVD were not forward looking option I'd tell you to sell, donate, or throw away your regular Black Hawk Down movie.
The Superbit has an amazing picture considering its 480i (it looks High Def) and its mixed in DTS. I swear I'm in the chopper with Hoot and Wolcott. Im just sad that people care more about special features than video and sound quality - otherwise Superbit might have had a different life. All thats moot with next-generation around the corner.
Also consider DTS version of Gladiator, the Blue Man Group Audio concert, Blade II, Galaxy Quest (corny, but the sound effects are outstanding), and the LOTR Extended Edition DTS ES. As you can see, Im a DTS guy.Do you hear that buzzing noise? -

I am with you on this. My wife and I never, never, never, never, watch all those special features things. The lone exception is some of the deleted scences, but after watching them, you usually see why they were deleted. I all honesty, I don't care what the director was thinking about in a particular shot. My sister in law (in her 30's)-that's another story, and she is why they put all that crap on the DVD. Her house is full of all the LOTR, Star Wars, Pirates of the Carribean marketing crap that I always thought was marketed to 10 year olds, but she spends a small (possibly large) fortune on all this stuff. I think they put that extra stuff on there for the fanatical fan of the movie to get them even more hooked and more likely to waste (in my opinion) money on a bunch of useless junk. (Just how many Vigo Mortenson and Johnny Dep calendars do you need?) -
Congrats...welcome!
Swordfish. Decent movie. Great sound.
