Well, the wife has accepted we will have a set of lsi15's in the living room after the new year. So my question is what, if any are the benifits of using mono blocks over a multi channel amp? I was looking into a used Parasound but also thought about a set of Outlaw 2200's.

    Hi -

Not sure that I am right on this, but I would suspect that the monos would give you more power output available indpendent of the channel, and more power available to the amplification section of the unit. I am sure I am oversimplifing things - someone will chime in here with the straight dope eventually.

    Cheers!

Get the Parasound, maybe an HCA 1200 or 1500. IMO, the Parasound sounds better than the Outlaw monos.

The mono blocks will have a dedicated power supply for the one channel were as many of the multi channel units share a single supply among channels. There are some multi ch units that have a supply for each channel like Bryston's 6B and 9B but those extra transformers don't come cheaply.

Ditto, the Parasound will be a more musical amp than the Outlaws.

You also don't have to worry about cross talk with mono amps.

Basically, when the left channel signal leaks into the right channel.. or visa versa. As a result, you may find yourself with a confused soundstage with certain instruments and/or vocals losing focus on a recording.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

the benifits of a mono vs multi channel really depend on what models you are talking about. yes, a mono block might have a dedicated power supply, but most multi channels have large energy storing transformers. I guess it depends on what your needs are. check this amp out....

If you can get a pair of Parasound HCA 1200II's you can use them like monoblocks with one amp per channel, bi-wiring the lsi's.
