what's the theory behind tube dampers? are they used to decrease vibrations in the tubes?

for real? is this snake oil or what? although I have very limited experience with tubes.. how much vibration can be bad for tubes? I would think.. unless you have your tube gear sitting on a SVS subwoofer... it ain't gonna vibrate much.

I believe it has something to do with microphonics. External vibrations can cause vacuum tubes to vibrate and produce tones. Check out the info on Upscale audio's website, they discuss tube microphonics in depth.
