Bi Amping and Sub hook up

Hi guys,

I tonight have bi-amped my RTi10s and am pleased with the result, but I want to understand the impact of bi-amping and still utilising my existing connections to my PSW505, via the speaker inputs and outputs on the sub?

I believe the second connection I have made from my amp is to the high frequency connections on the speakers (top connections) whilst my original "main speaker" connections, which are running through the sub, are connected to the lower connections, which I also believe to be the low frequency for the RTi10s.

Is this the ideal connection now? I was happy when the high and low frequencies were bridged and my above connection type, but just want to make sure this is still the case or if I need to change my connection some how.

Thanks in advance.

    VRX8,

I believe is that any Sub with speaker inputs and RCA LFE input is using the internal amplifier of the sub. The speaker input is working as you wired the sub as LFE input. This way is not best as you're adding noise to the sub signal, best to wire to LFE if you're AVR serves it.

    Thanks Steve,

The Yammie does have the LFE, so I'll give that a try. The sub certainly works more effectively via my current connection (as per Polk suggestion in their education section of this site), but the LFE may now come into its own now that I have bi-amped.

    Thanks again.

    Are looking at this http://www.polkaudio.com/education/article.php?id=19

I'm in agreement with the Polk Gods.

If you're using the sub in 2 channel mode (music) then I say ok, but with bi-amping amps it doesn't matter which amp you use for this propose. What ever sounds best but only one amp not both.

Yes, that was the article that I was basing my decision on and I also listen to music quite regularly, not only home theatre. The unfortunate part when I tested the new set up today, I couldn't utilise a lot of volume (wife was asleep at the time). I'll try again at louder volume tomorrow and either leave it as is, tweak it a bit or try the LFE option. I used to hook up via the sub out on the AVR (previous models as well), but found I was lacking with 2 channel and follwed the Polk Gods directions ever since.

Thanks again for responding so promptly.

I am still learning new stuff on my AVR, but my Yamaha permits me to direct bass to sub only, fronts only or both sub and fronts. Does the 2700 not do this? I may be missing something with mine.

    Hi Polktiger,

Sorry for the delayed response. Yes, the 2700 does have that option too but you would be required to set your main speakers to "small" to get the sub to work when you select "both" in the receiver menu. If you set them to large as I have, in 2 channel mode the sub doesn't get the signal to turn on. Likewise, if you select "Pure Direct" the sub is eliminated. By hooking up the main speakers through the sub, the sub always receives a signal, no matter what the setting is.

    Hope this helps
