Ever heard of Herald's Electronics?

Just dipping into nostalgia here, but I'm wondering if anyone ever heard of Herald's Electronics... I think they've been out of business for ... 15 years or more?? I think they were based in Indianapolis or Cleveland or somewhere in that general area.
My very first speakers were a home-constructed pair using components from Herald's - 12" long-throw woofer, 1" mylar dome tweeter, and stock crossover (had to build them one at a time due to money constraints.. I was 15). They really were pretty good... for a year or so, I ran them off a buddy's ancient tube amp with my compact (including 8-track) stereo as the source. I sold them to a friend before I graduated from high school. He tripped over the power cord of his stereo when the volume was maxed out, didn't turn it down before he plugged it back in, and promptly burned up both tweeters.
Bought Pyle components a couple of times.. they never did measure up.
I know there is a Dayton speaker company.. don't know if they actually manufacture or if they buy (or import) and put their name on the components.. wondered if there was a connection.
Anyway, just wondering. I think I have a soft spot for EVERY pair of speakers and every component I've ever owned and gotten rid of (always sold to help pay for upgrades). Sometimes I wish I had my own "history of audio" room with every piece I've ever owned in there to play with once in awhile.
First receiver: Sansui 3900Z (back when power was about $10 a watt)
First cassette: Sony TC-5C (one of the first with Dolby C)
First turntable: Technics semi-auto with S-shaped arm
....thanks.. for the memories...

Good post burdette...makes me think back at the old one peice 7' long console stereo my parents had with the 8 track. This thing was solid wood and had to weight 300lb. Me and my dad would sit and listen to the foodball game on it when I was a kid....great memories. Sometime I wish I could go back to those days.....Oh, the bottle has been to me, my closes friend, my worse enemy!

Nascarmann, my parents had that same type console. I'll never forget listening to the Steeler Game made famous by the immaculate reception. My Dad pounded on the floor for some 5 minutes and our dog Oscar went nuts thinking something was wrong.
I have made it back though... I get a kick out of building lego's with my 2 year old and forget about all the nonsense we have to deal with everyday.***WAREMTAE*** -
I grew up with one of those long wooden consoles, also. I wouldn't let my mother get rid of it for years because I wanted to figure out a way to mount a 'real' stereo inside. But she got tired of storing/moving it before I could get to it...
We currently have one of our systems inside the solid walnut cabinet of an old old 25" television set. We saw it for free in the paper several years ago, brought it home, gutted it, put in matching shelves, and it has worked great. MUCH better than some snap-together particle board ****. I had to put plexiglass panels on the front (snap in place) when we had our first child. But it is nice having *real* wood.. solid wood... wrapped around our system. -
Thats was a GREAT idea Burdette!
**** i just dropped 500 on a 4 tier rack.... I could have bought some cool stuff if i saw this post a moth ago.
Good job!***WAREMTAE*** -
I used to live off of Ramen Noodles and Peanut Butter but always had money for gadgets... I guess we have the same problem.***WAREMTAE***
