So are these speakers worth anything?

Some folks over at Audiokarma love these things. You don't hear much about them anywhere else. I've never heard them. If they are free, use them in your garage.Carl

You know I was actually thinking about doing that. I bought them new with a Pioneer sx950 and Pioneer turntable back in 1977. Man those things sounded great back then, I blew them up once too. I should have sent the bill to Edgar Winter:)Testing

So were you blasting "Frankenstein"???:D
The SX-950 is a decent receiver, do you still have that? The Pioneer was a lot nicer to work on than the Marantz. More room. Changing lightbulbs in a Marantz can be a real challenge. For the sound quality, I like the Marantz first, Pioneer second. I've got an SX-650 and an SX-828 around here.

Now how did you figure that out:) Yes I still have the receiver and turntable.Testing

I went over to that site and checked out the forum. Yes they are pretty hot for those speakers alright. Dang I might have to get em fired up and start playing all my old vinyl again.Testing

To borrow a phrase, a box of bad sound.Political Correctness'.........defined
"A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a t-u-r-d by the clean end."

Two weeks ago, I found a pair at a flea market for $60 in great shape and sold them on eBay for $360. So, they are good for something! Back in the seventies, when I was in the service, every other room had a pair of them. The other rooms had Bose 901's. I never cared for either one. I was on the JBL bandwagon until I discovered Polk Audio in the mid eighties. I haven't looked back since!shoester5

The 100's are so so, the 150's and the 1500's are where it's at.
I got the 1500's to flip, and ended up keeping them for almost a year in one zone of the whole house audio system. Solid performers, with tight bass, and a very pleasant top end.
I'd put them easily in my top ten 'common man' speakers. Something affordable and attainable, and a whole lot fun to listen to.

I'm sitting on a pair of HPM 900's that need new surrounds. Maybe after the holidays, I send them out to be reconed. I know they only need the surrounds but I always like to have them completely rebuilt. It's not much more and that way, I'll know I won't have any problems with them in the future.shoester5
