....you really listen to on a normal basis?
I have and like almost all types of music...from Led Zeppelin to Vivaldi, to Oscar D'leon, to Norah Jones.......but I find myself always listening to the same 5-10 CD's; the selections might change over time, but there's usually a short list that gets listening time over and over again.
Right now, that list is:
-Alison Krauss + Union Station - New Favorite
-Dave Brubeck -For All Time (The 5 CD's are pure gold....)
-Diana Krall -Stepping Out (Her best IMO)
-Chick Corea - Rendezvous in New York.
-Airto Moreira - Life after that
-Taylor Eigsti - lucky to be me
-Madeleine Peyroux - Dreamland
-Wynton Marsalis - The magic hour
Do you go through all your music or like me have "seasonal" favorites? Just curious...

Thank God for different opinions. Imagine the world if we all wanted the same woman

I have a core group of about 100 or so CD's that represent my main listening, and cover a broad spectrum of rock, folk, blues, jazz, alternative, etc. styles of music. I have about 250 to 300 other CD's in a rack outside my den and bedroom, and I tend to just blindly grab a CD for background music while I am working, or nightime listening. A lot of these CD's are older ones, and I have a sister heavily associated with the music industry, so boxes of CD's just appear on my doorstep on a regular basis. Out of these, if I like them they go into the rack, if I don't they either go to my kids or to some close friends for them to grab what they like.
Interesting question! My tastes in music tend to not follow any one genre, and change pretty frequently. I have a lot of CD's that I just don't listen to very often, however I keep thinking I might like that CD again, so I don't move it down the road.DKG999

My wife detests when I listen to my stereo because the room becomes one giant pile of cd's, cases, and liner notes. I pretty much listen to everything, all the time. All my gear (and everything else I own for that matter) is extremely well taken care of, clean and spotless...
With the exception of my CD's... stacks and stacks of 'em. Rarely in their cases. But I know where they're at.. you better believe it. Too much stuff to listen to. Not enough time:DI never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore -

Between all formats I've got somewhere above 2,000 albums. I definitely get in moods for a certain artist or type of music and I'll rotate through a few for a week. (Right now I'm in a Stevie Wonder mood..."Innervisions" spinning for the 4th time today at work, although Saul Stokes "Fields" was in earlier today and I have Datacide - "Flowerhead" in the car.)
I tend to mostly listen to ambient or minimal electronic stuff, but my collection spans just about everything except country, opera, and showtunes...
Back to the question - I probably rotate through 200-300 regularly - with the rest making rare appearances. I rarely get vinyl out anymore though I still love it - so that chunk of my collection just sits.

I used to listen to music like you do now. But about 10 years ago I bought a 200 CD Sony jukebox. I like to play ALL with the random setting. It's amazing what CDs you forgot you had. It's nice not to know what will be played next and if you don't feel in the mood for that song hit NEXT. And if your hated tune comes on that you never want to hear again then hit Track Delet and you will never hear it again. I currently have 800CD's in multple jukeboxes.
I believe you can buy hard drive jukeboxes now but they are expensive. Olive makes a nice one that will hold 1000 CDs i think with loseless recording.
The wife factor is also a big plus and do you know how much space 800 CDs take up? About 2 yeats ago I finally throw away all the plastic cases.
And yes I know that the Sony 400 ES jukebox is not the best player around. -
I've got one of the older 200 cd Sony jukeboxes... Used to enjoy the random factor as well. However, my listening habits migrated from listening at home, to almost always listening in the car or at work - so the jukebox is rarely played now and has been moved to our basement room.
Most of my jewel cases are in storage. I used to love having all the cd's up on shelves in my music studio (and I'm a huge fan of album art and liner notes...), however, all of those shelves migrated to dvd's - and all my cd's ended up in a couple of folder type cases (and most are stored in 50 cd blank cdr spindles... eek...) due to needing to be portable. I definitely need a large portable mp3 player one of these days.
