THX Certified Speakers

While reading on this forum and other places I've noticed that some speakers are "THX Certified". What is difference between these speakers and non certified speakers? Is this a "buzzword" so some speaker companies can charge more for them even though they are the same as the non certified ones?

I'm not looking to upgrade, just curious...

It means that a company paid for the logo and they meet a minimum set of standards. Most speakers far exceed these standards but have no desire to pay for the THX badge. If you like the way the speakers sound, buy them, don't worry about the THX badge.
There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin

Most people agree that it's a useless certification.

Many old threads are devoted to the topic.

I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

That's basically what jdhdiggs said. I figured that might be the case.

Many threads may be here on that subject but not according to the forum "Search" (or "Advanced Search") when I typed in "thx". That's why I asked. Be gentle, I'm new here...

Maybe it's just me, but it seems that the search engine may have been modified a bit recently. It seems to pull up an abundance of recent threads no matter what the search criteria....

Yeah just searching for "THX" doesn't work unfortunately. I think it's too short.

I was just giving a friendly reminder to search, no mean spirit intended :)
