Subwoofer calibration question please help

here my troubles i use the rotel teat tones to set the speaker levels to 75 and the sub to 75 and the sub trim to -2. when i put the avia disc in to to see how close im the speakers read 75 but the sub reads 69 but i shut off the speakers when i set the sub level here im i wrong in doing that. because the speaker plays the sub test tones and i thought that would give me a wrong reading.
