    Hey Ben:

You got a very good deal for that set of SDAs. They are big heavy speakers, and I hope they ship well. Let us know how you made out when they arrive.

Congrats on your new speakers! Make sure they are packed well. Get insurance! Each speaker should be insured for the value of the pair. If one gets trashed, you get all your dough! Good luck!

Very nice score. Your Adcom will make them sing. Very nice amp. How many watts is that amp? I have a Adcom GFA-545 running a pair of S4's in my garage.

    250 at 8ohms and 400 at 4ohms
What I can't find is the spec's for my The SDA2's?

I was kinda thinking about bi amping the speakers.
    I also have a GFA-555, GFA-7500, and a GFA-5400
I do love the detail, and impact of adcom even if I think its a little bright with my polks.
I haven't seen the wiring diagram yet.
It might be better to leave them alone except for new caps probally?

    Thanks Ben

I don't believe the SDA 2's are bi-ampable (if that is even a word). I know my 2B's are not. They only have one set of binding posts. You need to buy a copy of "The SDA Compendium" from Darkknight. I got a copy a couple of weeks ago and love it. You can pm him. It covers the whole SDA line and even has schematics for all the speakers.

I just had a scary thought. My Adcom gfa-585 is basically 2 GFA-565 mono's in one chassis. will I have Ground issues?
    Thanks Ben

Nice score Ben. You'll love the SDA effect. BTW I have GFA 565 mono blocks, they are 300 wpc into 8 ohms.

If they are on one chasis then it should be a common ground amp. You should call Adcom here is the linkand find out for sure if they are common ground. One test you could perform would be to take an VOM, set it to resistance and place the leads; one on the left channel negative post, one on the right channel negative post. If the meter reads zero you have a common ground amp.

With my 565s I have to strap the grounds between the mono blocks and possibly strap the chasis' also but only if there is a ground loop hum.

Good listening. Let us know how they made it in shipping.

The Ebay seller wants me to pay via money order. I'm scared to do that with speakers, or anything for that matter. What do you guys think? He only has one sale under his belt, and 11 total>
    Thanks Ben

It says in the listing what types of payment are accepted, he says PayPal isn't one of them. Use a USPS money order, if the seller doesn't ship, it's fraud, something the USPS takes seriously.

I used a USPS money order in the past. The clerk told me to first verify the person's address by internet search or whatever means possible. Once the person's address and possibly the phone number then if anything happens the PO can send a Postal Cop (yes they have these) and make a visit to the person's house.

I did this when I purchased my Adcom 565's.

It made me feel very comfortable with the transaction. As it turns out the seller (audiogon) was a really nice stand-up dude.

Sounds like some good advice so far. I always am skeptical of a seller that doesn't accept PayPal. I know PayPal eats almost 3%, but if you pay via a credit card on your PayPal account, you have both PayPal and your credit card working for you if something goes amiss. I did purchase an item that was specified 'No PayPal', and I asked him if I paid the additional 2.X % if he'd accept, which he did. I've talked with my credit card company, AmEx, and asked them about their policy of paying for an item via PayPal w/ their card. They stated that if I didn't recieve something that I ordered, they'd refund immediatly, and then investigate. So far I've been fortunate and not had to find out first hand. Also, I've got a pair of 2's - very nice speakers, and great price. Let us know what you think when you get them.
SDA SRS modded: X’ovrd, de-polyed, inductorized, interconnectorized, re-posted, dynamited, RDO’d, spiked, gasketed, ringed (Larry's), and grill cloth blinged! Done this on my own? Not a chance. Quiz the seller on how he's going on how/who he's shipping with and the pack job. $100 is doable w/insurance, if the guy really packs them well himself. Shipping them the way I'd want them shipped would cost considerably more. They'd be in 3 layers of heavy bubble, 2 layers of heavy cardboard, strapped flat to a pallet with a sign saying top load only. Then I'd call the carrier to make it happened.

FYI MasterCard doesn't cover used items purchased anywhere. VISA has for me and glad to hear Amex helped you out. I've never seen a postal cop but it's nice to know they are there should the need arise. Enjoy your SDA's! It's premature but know that Polk Audio has updated tweeters should you find these tweeters sounding harsh.

Congrats on your speakers Ben, good price!

Just noticed that you bought those just down the road a little ways from me! All the way to Florida? Wow, what trip for those, make sure the seller packs them well!!

The GFA-585 is not common ground to the best of my recollection. I strongly advise checking with Adcom before you use it with it SDA's. Nice score

Thanks Guys, I have communicated with the seller, and they are to be packed very well in SDA1 boxes. I will make the ups guy stay here while I open them if that helps any. I also learned to KEEP the boxes they were sent in. I ordered a set of monitor 5's. They received minor cabinet damage. I opened the speaker grill and noticed that the woofer was extended all the way, and appeared to be seized. I opened up both cabs and found one of the woofer magnets in the bottom of the case along with a tweeter magnet. they managed to slam them so hard they broke three of the four drivers. No box no claim no more FedEx.

I got my SDA2's, and the book on the SDA line of speakers. Both in good shape. Listening to some Carlos Santana for the moment. :-)

I am pushing them with an Adcom GFA-555 @325 watts per 4 ohm load. I am only get 105 decibels C weighted out of them. All the drivers are fine. The spec recommend up to 500 watts each. Do you thinks there maybe a problem?

BTW I am enjoying them more and more as I listen to them!
