Porcupine Tree - DVD Concert "Arriving Somewhere"

I did a search and there was some mention of this band, but one page of results went back 5 years...

I got turned on to this band a little over a year ago on AVS touting their DVD A album " In Absentia" as one of the best MC mixes ever made. I checked it out and it was.

My background...I cut my teeth on ELP, Yes and Genesis...thought I could become a keyboard wizard in the early 70s...still have a Hammond B3 in storage...gave away my ARP Odyssey synth in the early 90s (what an idiot).

Anyway I'd really recommend PT's DVD As, In Absentia, Deadwing and Stupid Dreams. They're mixed by Elliot Sheiner and Steve Wilson(PT founder). A fusion of styles, prog, Floyd, metal, but they have a real flavor of their own...incredible drummer and bassist, complex vocal harmonies and emotional impact. They released a live DVD "Arriving Somewhere" which is a bit rougher than the studio stuff, but really hits...DTS 5.1 2 disk set. I saw them live in SF this winter...simply amazing band.

Check it out.

Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B

I haven't seen this yet, but I do have In Absentia in 5.1 and it's a lot of fun to listen too.

The DVD is from their concert in Chicago last year. I wanted to go but was out of town when they came. I'll have to check it out as I've become a fan of their stuff. I found out about them after getting the free B&W DVD last year -- there is a DTS 5.1 version of Blackest Eyes that sounds great.

I'm going to see them on 6/1/07 at the same place they made the DVD. It should be a great show!

I'll have to check that out. Are you going to the 6/1 show?

In case you don't know, they're playing sometime in May at the same venue.
