In wall speaker installation next to stud?

Going install some rectangular in wall speakers...Am I going to have a problem if I only have 1/2" of dry wall between one edge of the cut out and a stud? The installation instructions calls for a minimum 1". I figure I won't beable to completely engage the rotating cams, but they will at least be half way engaged. Keep in mind the other three sides will have plenty of room for the rotating cams to be fully engaged. Anyone run into this issue?

Is there a reason you can't move the hole over 1/2 inch (or has it already been cut?)

The problem is that the place was prewired and they used a 3" x 2" electrical box to contain the wires; the box is nailed flush to the stud. In order to conceal the hole that will be made when I remove the box, I will need to make the speaker cutout relatively close to the stud (around 1/2")

Well, then I see your point. I have not used these wall mounts, so I am not sure. I would think that 3 side plus 1/2 on the 4th would do it. Depending on how much wire is there, patching a hole that size is not very difficult. The biggest pain would be buying the sheetrock and even HD and lowes will have partial piece that they will give you (around here at least) so you don't have to buy a whole 4x8

Try chiseling out the part of the stud that is in the way of the cam. If the drywall is not in good shape in that area for the cam to lock onto. Chisel a channel ( or use a drill and a paddle bit) to create a channel for the cam to lock into. A little bit of measuring and a little luck and you should be just fine.
