i have a 2104 and i need an amplifier I am trying to decide what amp to go with. I looked on crutchfield and they had a profile with 17 good reviews but the price is cheap so that causes some worry. can i over power this sub or is 300 RMS the max? what amp do you uggest for this sub? I am willing to go used if one of you guys has a suitible one forsale.

Ps i'd like to stay under 200 if possible.

thanks
erik

I have been reading up on those all 17 good reviews i look at all the info almost every night. But my thought process tells me that if its that cheap it cant be good. is that really a decent amp? i am also considering the 380 watt pioneer.

    Its a very good amp.

It doesnt have all the bells and whistles and it probably wont exceed its rated power, but itll deliver what it advertises and its put together really solid. For $110 you simply cannot beat it.

What guage wires will I need for 300-400 RMS? I was thinking 8 but I might go 4. I am not going to be putting a bigger amp in ythis car ever.

    any other amp suggestions?

what RMS can the momo sub ACTUALLY take??

As I understand it, the MOMO subs don't like to be overpowered. So, if you keep it within 10-20 watts of its rated power, you should be good to go.

As for what gauge wire, I think I'd go with 4gauge. I'm using 2awg main power wire to my distro block, and then 4awg to my amp. I would think 4awg would be plenty for just your one amp.

As for bells and whistles you might want, you could go for a low pass filter, perhaps with a variable slope. Talking about a sub amp, I'm not sure exaclty how many bells and whistles there are.

If Mac says it's solid, then I'd take his word for it. However, you're also right. If it's that cheap, I'd want something a little nicer.

Just depends on what you're looking for and your budget. For instance, I spent about $400 (I think?) on my amp for my mains, so I wouldn't want to go with something like this Profile for my sub. But, it may suit your needs just fine.

Id use 8 guage for a 300 watt amp. Nothing wrong with 4 guage but youre paying for wire youll not need.

As for the Profile, its just a simple gain block amplifier with minimum features. No fancy gold plate this or military spec that. Just a simple amplifier. But with a solid build and good power, itll be just fine.

But if you feel more comfortable shelling out some more green for a better amp by all means do so. You can never go wrong by upgrading! ;)

what would be an upgrade and how much difference would I notice?

could I use this for the sub now and maybe upgrade sub amps and put this to my speakers later? could I wire a cross over, tweeter and mid speaker all to one chanell of the profile and not over/underpower them?

I'm 16 and this is my first car and first system so thanks for all of your guys help. if you think 8 gauge and that profile will push my momo for now I will probably order it. I trust you guys more then i trust those reviewers.

The upgrades would be basically better built quality, no turn on or turn off pops, better crossover features and the likes.

Again, that is a perfectly fine amp. If you have a limited budget, Profile is an excellent option.

    I use 14 myself.

As for which is best, speaker wire is pretty much speaker wire.

I use Radio Shack's 14 guage flat wire at $20 for 50'. Walmart has some generic 14 guage speaker wire for $12/50'.

I prefer the flat wire cause its easier to navigate it thru tight spaces.
