Paint suggestions

Hey Guys,

This isn't on par with modding a tube preamp or anything, but I didn't think it would hurt to get some input.

I've got some older gear that has the occassional scratch, etc., and I thought repainting the casing on a couple of things would help the asthetics (and eventually the resale value).

I've had good luck spray-painting various items in my life and thought that would be the best / easiest way to go. Any suggestions on brands of paint to use? What to try, what to stay away from?

All the components are black and metal, so I was just going to run out and grab a can or two of high-gloss black spraypaint and go to work. I did try some touch-up work with a paint-marker, but it looked a little foreign when the light hit it from a certain angle. Covered up a scratch or two, but was almost as noticeable as the scratch itself.

If this undertaking is successful, I may try repainting the wood on my Thiel CS 1.2s that have the occassional scratch here and there so feel free to put in some ideas on paint for wood speakers as well as the metal component cases.

    For the record...

I would NEVER buy any piece of gear where a guy spray painted the hood - sorry, get it professionally done unless its junker gear...

And make sure you sand it down if you plan to do it yourself, so it adheres correctly..

I don't own any high gloss black gear. Most that I come across have a wrinkled, satin, or lightly textured type of finish that is pretty hard to match. I guess I'm with Trey on this. Unless you can make it look factory, don't do it.

Resale will be less on gear repainted, unless the scratches and scuffs are real bad, since alot of gear sits in cabinets or gets more gear stacked on it.

Cool, I appreciate the opinions. I'll be sure to stay away from the glossy stuff, if I decide to do anything.

I got a little paint pen to touch up a scratch or two where the metal was showing through silver and thought it might be easier and look better to just repaint the hood altogether. This isn't the good stuff in either of my rigs, either.

I thought repainting would be easy. . . I may just try it out on some miscellaneus component I'm not using and see how it goes.

sand the case down, buy a can of spray on truck bed liner...

Stuff dries very evenly, idiot proof - indestructible....
