Cambridge 840a integrated

I went down to tweeter to give a listen to the ML Mosaics on sale.
They had them on a Cambridge 840a integrated amp and a 640 player.
The amp at 12 o'clock was too low a volume to be listenable. And these are 90 db rated speakers.
I went home and researched the amp. 120 wpc at 8, 200 wpc at 4 ohm.
Something's wrong. I went back with my trusty Nad 2400. No pre- the amp's
level in knobs would work for this test. I ran the system again at a higher volume, then talked
with a manager. He said the Cambridge amps weren't cutting it with any speaker they put on it.
He helped me set up the Nad. It was close to closing time, so I didn't get much of a listen.
But the Nad drive them without working up any strain.
I don't know what's up with the Cambridges. No balls at all.
And to top it off, the 640 player had died before my second listen.
Stay away from the stuff!

Unless your Tweeter store is much better than the ones in the Chicago area, I would suggest this is probably more of a reflection on Tweeter than on Cambridge Audio! CA equipment seems to be pretty bullet proof based on my observations. Hopefully the new stuff hasn't gone downhill!DKG999
