Need the real low-down on ceiling speakers

Hey Folks,
I'm starting construction on a log home soon with a cathedral ceiling for the family room...the vault goes to the height of the second floor ceiling. I've got a wall for an enclosed HD projection TV and I'll probably install in-wall speakers for left & right front.
My main concern is I have no rear wall to mount rear surrond speakers and all the research I've found on the internet seems mixed at best for ceiling mounted speakers. I could use some good advice on what to do, where to place, and what to expect.
This will sort of be a Christmas present to myself, however I don't want to fool myself into thinking I can get the same surrond sound as I do from my current system that has speakers mounted in the wall behind me.
Thanks for your help,
Rick

If i were you i'd call Polk Sales dept.. and see what they recommend for your new home. You may have different needs that just your typical wood built home. I'm sure they'll set you up with a kick **** system.
Good luck..PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

So, in a typical stick 'n brick house, do ceiling mount speakers match the hype you read in the ads?

I can't speak for all ceiling mount speakers.. and I have very little time listening to them. but I will say this. Polk Audio spends a huge amount of time and money in research development into all their speakers.. including their new top of the line inwall/ceiling ones that just came out. And man they do sound sweet.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?
