McIntosh MX130 surround preamp?

Anyone have any experience? There is one on local CL right now and I've always been tempted to add McIntosh in one of my systems. What I understand it's considered an entry level Mac but should still be pretty good for the price.
Can it accept other outboard decoders than the Mac THX board (or is the board just to allow you to connect a decoder to it)? I'd be using this with HD-XA1's analog outputs.
