I own my own company, but its not a full time job just kind of a hobby and i was lucky enough to have a customer/friend of mine spend about 90k retail for the first install. I will have pics soon. I mostly do it to help people out who have no idea on what they want to do and give me a budget and say give me something i will be happy with.

I am in commissioned home theater sales. I got started in hourly audio sales at Best Buy about 7 or 8 years ago. It sucked of course. I went to a new place that opened in town for more money and better gear. The staff makes between maybe $40,000 and $90,000 with average being around $60,000 I would guess. The hours suck though.

Now, I'm an installation support specialist. AKA I'm a knowledge guy. I get all the tech questions and help people get set up for installation.
The pay is really good considering the job!
I started at Circuit City and quit to go work for a local shop and get real experience. Worked in the car and home side of A/V for over 8 years now and love every minute of it. It sucks being a salesman but I am good at it, but as already stated... THE HOURS ARE BOOTY! Other than the hours, it's a great job/industry. You listen to music, watch movies, learn technologies about "men" toys and get to tell people about it and why they should spend more money to get something that makes you say "HOLY F***! Did you hear/see that?" Did I mention you basically play and get paid for it?

I work for a big box store. Most of my time is spent moving tvs and setting up htib's. The pay sucks because I'm not in sales (whereas the sales guys will make $50 - $100 an hour on weekends) but it's easy and just something to do for now until I find something better. If we actually sold good products I wouldn't have any problems being a salesperson but having to push terrible products and extended warranties just doesn't fly with me.

Michael, have you ever checked out the HiFi Centre or Signature Audio in Vancouver? Not sure where in BC you live.

No I haven't but it looks like I should be heading over there asap ;) Both stores are about a twenty or thirty minute drive too. Despite Signature Audio's bad web site it looks like they carry a ton of amazing gear. Thanks for pointing those out.
