Room layout question for LSiFX surrounds

I have a 60" Sony SXRD and a 5-channel LSi system (LSi15/LSiC/LSiFX). I have two choices, neither of which is optimal, but I could use some input.

1) Sit about 7 feet from the screen with one surround speaker above and to my left and the other surround speaker the same distance to my right, but about 2 feet forward.

2) Sit about 9 feet from the screen with one surround speaker above and 2 feet behind, with the other above and 4 feet behind.

I'm leaning toward the second choice. I'm wondering what the effect will be of one speaker being further behind than the other. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Brian

    Number 2 is the better choice. Surrounds in front of the listener interfere with signals from the mains. Even sides on a 7 channel setup should be slightly behind the seating area if possible.

    Make sure you calibrate speaker volumes to overcome the distance difference.

    Yep- get them behind you. The distance settings in your pre/pro/AVR should help iron out the differences.

    I sit 6-7 feet from my 42" hdtv, for a 60" I would go with option #2.
    Win7 Media Center -> Onkyo TXSR702 -> Polk Rti70
