i have fought for hours with my self about this subject. I have compared and shopped, researched and stressed, and still can't come to a decision. My speaker setup is:
RTI10's L/R
CSI5 center
TC265i rears
I wnat to use either the rotel RSX-1057 with the RMB-1095, or the denon 4806ci without seperate amp for the time being.
Denon Pros and cons:
upconverting for every input
audussey eq setup helps with positioning
every damn input you'll ever need
just my pref.
gets pretty hot, and heat is the enemy
seperates sound better
Rotel pros and cons:
high quality product
very clean sound
price is good for the quality
low heat and underrated on amp side.
Please help me decide.

While I like my Denon, if I had the money to make the choice I would go with Rotel especially since you are getting a separate amp to go with it.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

just wanted to finally clear the air. I'm going with the rotel 1057 receiver and the 1095 amp. the speakers will be the rti10's L/R, csi5 center, and the tc265i rears. this will be my dream theater setup.

The 1095 will move that system. Good choice. Enjoy.Michael
In the beginning, all knowledge was new!

How much are you paying for the Rotel receiver? I think you would be better off just purchasing the 1095 and picking up the Sherwood Newcastle P965 if it is still available in the FM.

Why pair a nice amp like that with any reciever? Why not go with the Rotel RSP-1068 pre.
The Rotel amp and pre retail for less than the Denon alone. And to me, a $4000 reciever is silly, for that kind of coin I would only consider seperates. -
the only reason i am going wiht the 1057 is because i need the hdmi ins and outs. i don'te really understand why rotel wouldn't have added these to more of their equipment. if any of you guys knowof another rotel pre that has them, let me know, but I can't find any other equipment they have except the 1057 receiver.
-
If the reason for having HDMI in the receiver is to be able to route a video source to a TV then think about sending it straight there as an alternative solution.
-
you know, i had thought about running it straight. also, i bet i can hang on a little longer and rotel will probably introduce their new pre.pro'swith hdmi anyway. i do need to get a hold of those tc265's for the rear. i got the csi 5 and the rti10's. anyone want to buy a brand new in the box csi3 in black? i would ri know telly like to stay with all rotel equipment though. i know there is a lot of great names and pieces out there, but i do somewhat believe in piece matching. keep the thoughts coming and any ideas on other equipment i should check out.

why dont you do the 1057 and a 1080 amp instead? save you about $800...System 1: Martin Logan Vantage, Rotel RC 1070, B&K Reference 200.2, Music Hall DAC 15.2, Yamaha 2300

Because getting the 1095 will save him from having to buy other amps once he hears how good the 1080 sounds. All the speakers are amped in one fell swoop with 1 box! Best way to go about it & in the end will save him money since he's only putting it out once for the whole thing.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

I guess I can see the merit in that logic...I guess it really depends on his financials....people report a slight, but noticeably better music reproduction with the 1080...and with the exception of the center channel, so little info is sent to the rears that unless you do a lot of 5ch music listening, I think a full blown amp to the rears are not good value for $ IMO. I would rather spend that money on other toys...sounds like he needs a subwoofer....just my 2Cents.System 1: Martin Logan Vantage, Rotel RC 1070, B&K Reference 200.2, Music Hall DAC 15.2, Yamaha 2300

There is a lot of music coming out of the rear channels when you listen to DVD-A, SACD's & music videos. All of which tends to get lost if the speakers aren't as amplified as the 3 fronts. At least this is what I noticed when I finally amped my rears rather than relying on my receiver to power them.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

Get the 1068 pre/pro and if you really do need HDMI switching why not just get a seperate switcher? Geffen makes good switching products. They run about 250-450 $. Maybe you can pick 1 up cheaper on ebay or some other auction site. I plan on getting 1 in a few weeks.58" Samsung Plasma (on wall)(calibrated)

I couldn't help but notice you didn't have any "cons" on the Rotel....

the only con i have with the rotel is that they have no hmdi in/outs for their pre's. I like the price, the flexability, and the look of the equipment (appearance does mean a little to me). I do plan on taking advantage of a 5 channel music stage. I also like the idea of not paying for a seperate tuner. the 1057 will give me the hdmi, tuner, and a backup set of amps if i blow out the 1095 (not likely).
i do have a psw505 sub by the way. I am interested in looking on the switchers though. Thank you so much for your input guys. you are helping me so much. please keep the info coming as you are helping me set my mind in one direction. I have tossed around the idea of waiting for the new lines of rotel pre/pro's to see if they will add the hdmi outs. if so, then we hava a go.
