Closing out Uncle Charlies estate, and have his pair of Gallo Reference 3's (original version) getting ready to go up for sale. The Gallo SA amp is included to drive the second voicecoil of the woofers. Original owner, boxes, manual, etc.
Just getting them home, and detailing them with a fine tooth comb - wanted to check here before they go to the 'gon. I'm thinking $1900+ ship for Polkies. Retail $4000 for the set. Black on black (including amp), Silver spikes on the speakers.
Absolute Sound speaker of the year, etc etc
6moons made a 'new' award just for this speaker:
http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/gallo/ref3.html (they look identical to the ones in the review)
If you want to discuss, email me direct and we can get chatty on the phone. Happy to post pictures, more details after I find every last speck of dust and go scorched earth on them. (they have been sitting for a few months since his passing).
All proceeds go directly to Charlie's widow, Marilyn. These were his LAST speakers in his reference rig, and they were there for over a year (those who know him, know what that says about these speakers - you think I am a flipper? Charlie was my mentor and was doing HiFi before I was an itch in my daddy's pants). I would keep them, but I'm doing the Spendor thing right now, and these speakers would be wasted in anything outside my reference rig. You won't believe the bass, and the imaging.
Cheers,
Russ

I've heard these speakers.
They sound just like the carver amazings. clean, detailed with a wide soundstage.
Highly recommended.
Great price. These where designed by the same engineer who designed the dalhquist speakers.SRT For Life; SDA Forever!

Hahaha. This is the first time I've checked the FM in about three weeks or so. And I'm tempted by two things! Argh.
I actually read about these speakers a while back...decided they'd be pretty awesome for what they're going for on the used market. And now here they are for sale at a great price from an even better seller.
And then Early's Jolida integrated...wonder how that'd do powering these. The reviewer used 30 tube watts...wasn't enough...60 very well could be.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,...George Grand wrote: »

Charlie ran them in a 12w x 16d x 8h room. I planned to hook them up this weekend in a 10x11x9 room and see how they do. I see a lot of people running them with the woofers facing in - Charlie and I preferred them with the woofers facing out (in his room).

I own these speakers, one of the big reasons I got these over others is they are not as finicky on placing. I have them in a 14x16x8 and they sound phenomenal. Of course I also bought them because of the amazing tweeter, they sound great even at low volumes, and with the sub amp they are pretty much full range. But I digress
