Is this a better route than RTis?

Guy's selling a 6.1 B&W setup for $650 + shipping. I really want to invest in LSis, but having a full surround sound for less than I'd pair for a pair of towers would be cool...

Anyone have experience with the B&W DM303s?

These 2 speaker companies make speakers at opposite ends of the spectrum! I've never heard a B & W speaker that my ears could tolerate for an extended period of time. I HATE metal tweeters.
Don't get sidetracked by a good deal just to get something in the house. I dont really see (hear) that speaker as being something you would be satisfied with for very long.

I have to second this opinion.... that set-up doesn't really scream "til' death do us part."
The LSi's on the other hand will be there through thick and thin (and even hold your hair as you pray to the Porcelain God -- they're that dedicated).I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore -

I'm trying to. Not getting a whole lot of help from the seller.. he doesn't seem too driven to sell them to me.

Dane, it's not you. It is the great potential of damage to the speakers themselves during shipping that is the limiting factor. If I had them I wouldn't ship them either!Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

I know. I don't blame him. I shipped out a receiver, a PS3, and a Monster PowerCenter a couple days ago. After I was done packing them, I wanted to hang myself.

iI shipped out a set of Monitor 40's via ups. We packed the hell out of them and ups still managed to damage them. Pushed in tweeter dust cap, cracked face plate, corners, you name it.Michael

Seriously hold out for the Lsi's. Have some more patience used ones wil be avail in your area before you know it. Don't settle just because you want to get something."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass Pass Labs XA25 | EE Avant Pre | EE Mini Max Supreme DAC | MIT Shotgun S1 | Pangea AC14SE MKII | Legend L600 | BlueSound Node 3 - Tubes add soul! -

Asking on here helps but all anyone can give you is there opinion. You have to listen before you buy or see if the store has a return policy. I know the B&K dealer in my area will give you a demo set to take home before you buy them to make sure it's what you want.Michael

Part of the reason I was on a hunt for used is there really are no high-end dealers in my area. The only high-end dealer I've found around here sells Canton, KEF, and B&W.

Those DM303... with a good amp and a good pre...
Will smoke the socks off the RTi series in depth, detail, staging... you name it...
Theres really no comparison in the overall refinement... which the RTi line up is vastly lacking --- the RTi line was designed for one real purpose, reference theater and the DM303 has alot more musical traits to it in comparison...
The DM303 is not theater based and it surely is not based for full, enveloping sound... its all about the 1 on 1
