The HD-A2 does not have analog outputs, but the hd-xa2 does. If you want/need the outputs, and are looking at the budget player, take a look at the HD-A1 or HD-D1(Walmart's version of the A1). The D1 can be had for $450 or less.

The hd-d1 is a Toshiba model, although it is not listed on their website. There are updates for it, but I guess they didn't want to tell everyone that they made a "cheaper" version of the A1. The D1 has the same specs as the A1, but the face is black, instead of silver and black.

The new versions (xa2 & a2) are not actually out yet. I don't have an estimated date for either one yet from distributors. I can get the d1 and xa1, but the a1 has been extremely limited.

All **** none of the HD DVD players play Dolby TrusHD over multi-channel! I just hooked up a HDV5000 using perfect storm HDDVD and the pley only play Dolby TrueHD over 2 channels! Very disappointing! I am returning it tomorrow!

Sony Blu ray plays multi channel Dolby TrueHD but then again its $1,000!

You have to update the firmware for multi-channel TrueHD. It wasn't ready to go when the players were released, but the players are upgradable so you can still get it. Just hook the player's ethernet port up to your network. It's easy. If you don't want to do that, call Toshiba and they will send you a cd with it on it. There's also a link in the HD DVD section of AVSforum.com with an ISO if you want to burn it yourself.

Edit....is that an RCA HD DVD player? I'm not sure about them because I've never seen one. The Toshiba's are upgradable.

Firmware 2.0 gives you 5.1 TrueHD, call Toshiba and they'll mail you the disk.

I tried watch Superman thursday night with my SD dvd player (its a combo disc) and I took it out after about 30min, not because of the picture but the sound, after I had heard it in trueHD with the bass rumbling and his cape flapping by, DD just wouldn't cut it.

never mind I just read your other post. Just checked RCA's web sight and they only have the 1.4 firmware. I wonder if you could download Toshiba 2.0 firmware, is the HDV5000's not suppose the be pretty much the same player as the A1?
