The title says it all. I currently have a csi3 for center and I love the way the 6's sound over the 3. Wondering if the 5, considering it also has 6 1/2's like the 6's, will have that nicer sound quality and will match the 6's still.

Thanks. I have a HK avr 435 could I use the csi3 as a back center? I don't see this option the 435 states it's a 7.1. I have a Center, Mains, SL,SR,SBL, and SBR outputs on the back of my reciever so I suppose i couldnt So I'll probably just sell it unless there is some crazy way to set it up.

Yes, you can. Check the manual for specific instructions how to do 6.1 with your reciever. You may or may not like it. Going from 5.1 to 6/7.1 just adds more processing, since most of today's surround is still delivered at 5.1 at best.

I went from 6.1 to 5.1 with better speakers. Your rti4's shouldn't be struggling with their duty either.

What exactly is meant by a "match". Truly - only an identical speakers match. Does anyone, Polk included, describe exactly what is meant by a match? Do they publish their testing protocols that they use to establish what is a match? Does it mean that a sound from one speaker sounds the same from another? Pink noise tests on my RTi10s and my CSi5 sound distinctly different. When a company says one speaker is a timbre match to another - ask them what they mean by that, exactly, with data to match.

Has ANYONE ever seen such data? Or do you all just go on the description?

Yes, as far as Polk says, the CSi5 is a match for the RTi series. My 5 center sounds just fine with my rti10 mains and rti8 surrounds. But is it a match? How would we know?

So apparently everyone simply goes by what the manufacturer says when it comes to matching centers? Wow! Doesn't that startle anyone else?

Of course everyone just listens to the manufacturer's suggestions when buying a center.

The startling thing is that they charge close to 2X for a center as they would for a bookshelf with similar parts. But, you have to have the "matching" center, and a single bookshelf would be hard to find and more difficult to place. . . so, you buy the center that is rarely ever on sale and overpriced to begin with.

   I didn't know that little tidbit of info! It never came into the equation for me when I bought my center channel. I didn't know that it was considered best practice to have matching speakers until I joined this forum. By then I had my complete system except for my FXi 3's.

None of my speakers match, and I don't notice anything jumping out at me to tell me that I do have different speakers for all my channels. So again, I think this is just more marketing hype & would be audiophiles falling for it.
