Hi there so i want to spend a little $$$.I have a sony E.S. 6.1 receiver I think its 150 w. per channel. I know i want the RTi12s and the CSi5 for the center. Circit city trying to talk me into the CS2. I need to know what to get for the back 3 speakers. Monitor 40 for the sides or better? Would a CSi3 be wasted on the rear center. I dont want to wast the receiver and i dont want to buy rear speaker that i'me only pushing 15% of what they can do.Valodine dps 12 will be the sub, is this better then the polk PSW505?

Want to do it right the first time. Thanks for all your help:D

    Hi toddco,

Welcome to the Club Polk. You are in good hands here. If you want to get Rti12’s you are going to need an external amp (200wpc and up). Your Sony SE receiver is a fine machine, but you need a lot of power to drive 12’s and to get the most out of them. When I say power I am referring to amps with big transformers to make 12’s happy.

I don’t know the size of your room, but I think you would like Rti8’s or 10’s with sub for HT. For your centre the Csi5’s is awesome. Also, surrounds I would stay with Rti’s series to match you system. As for the rear center Csi3 would be great. I have no experience with Volodine, but most members on this forum go for SVS, HSU, Volodine……….

    Cheers

    Hi tod,
Gator is absolutely right about the 12's, go for 10's and get an HSU sub instead of the velodyne. It hits alot harder, lower and is about the same price as the velo you want. Google HSU and look at what they have. Great sub's.

    Hey tod,
As the others have said, you will want to drive those 12s more, I have a 7100 es receiver and am using two outlaw M2200 monoblocks on each speaker along with receiver power to biamp the 12s. As for rear since you want to go RTI series up front go with a CSi5 center, FXi5/FXi3 rears and SVS sub, you will love ya self for that purchase.

I have been told theFXi5 and 3 were for 5.1 and to use in a 6.1-7.1 is not the way to go. The fill you get is not right for 6.1 and bigger.

Hi Toddco, welcome to CP. The FXi 3's & 5's are for surround sound duty in any configuration that you want to put them in. As for the rest, the others have given you good info & ideas.

Could you please tell us the exact model of Sony receiver you have, that way we can see if you have preamp outputs in which to add separate amplification to later on.
