Help with TV station remote

In the early days of Direct TV I bought the best Sony reciever they made. This Sony remote for the reciever was the best ever because it had a jump loop button. The jump loop buttom made sorting out the 200 chennels easy and fun.
This is how it worked. If you are watching a channel that you like you could store it in the jump loop by just holding the buttom down for 2 seconds. A printed signal would print on the TV saying the station as stored. You could then surf the TV channels and find a second channel that was interesting. You could store this second channel in the jump loop by holding the jump loop button down for 2 seconds. You could add up to 8 channels to the jump loop. And you could surf the jump loop channels by just quickly pressing the jump loop buttom. To erase a stored jump loop channel just hold the buttom down for 2 seconds and the TV would print that the channel was deleted.
The jump loop button allowed you to sit down and quickly surf your options and select up to 8 channels to watch. I would then just use the jump loop button to surf.
My question. Does any one make a reciever that has this feature on the remote? Sony dicontinued the button. Can you make a programable remote do this?
I have cable tv now and the remote sucks selecting channels.
Help or suggestions please.

The reason I bring this remote subject up in that the favorite staion option sucks. I could have 40 favorite stations. Of the 40 stations I may want to select 5 for that night and would like to only surf just those 5. Without a degree in rocket science i can program those 5 stations with a jump loop.
It's simple and fun to use this feature so they eliminated it. Go figure.
I also notice that with Sony products the first year model is the most expensive and the best. Each newer model is cheaper and has less features.
