First Time Home Theatre user
Friends - I am new to this whole audio world and technologies. I am trying to set up my first home theatre system at home. I just got RM6750 POLK speakers from Circuit city. I am shopping around for a receiver. I really appreciate if you recommend me a good, inexpensive audio receiver that goes well with my new speakers. I want to know if I shall go for 5.1 or 7.1 receiver? Also I have a DVD player that has HDMI output and my TV is HD compatible and has HDMI inputs. I really appreiate your help to pick up a good receiver in the reasonable budget to suit my above requirements. Please respond.

I've been satisfied with my Harman Kardon AVR240. Entry level, but comes with everything you'd need. Sale is pending, but if he backs out, I'll let you know.
You might as well go for a 7.1 receiver, with preouts would be wise in case you decide to run separate amplifiers later on. Some other trusted names are Denon, Pioneer (those some disagree with that one), Onkyo. Just search the site. You'll find plenty of info. -
I would go Pioneer before Onyko.Everything I own burned in the fire!!!!!!!!!!

As and Onkyo owner I'll have to put my 2 cents toward the Onkyo 604 or the Onkyo 674 as they both handle hdmi and their rated power is 90wpc and 95wpc (respectively).
