Amp problems

hey,
I just purchased the Acurus 125x5 from Early b a couple days ago and just got it in today(thanks for the quick transaction Early). The amp didn't come with a owners manual but thats ok cause I got you guys;) ...
anyways, for now I'm just using cheap analog cables for just the two fronts until I get my better quality cables for all channels. I also was so surprised how small the hole was for speaker wire:eek: I have 14 guage wire, you can prolly barely fit 18 guage speaker wire. This pretty much forces you to buy banana plugs...
Ok, now to the real problem, when I turn the amp and the reciever on, I hear a loud...sound(I can't really explain it, )... Its not a hissing sound... anyways, I was about to contact early B about the possibility of something wrong with the amp, but then I unplugged the analog cables and the sound was gone. At least to me, that means that there is nothing wrong from amp to speakers, but from amp to reciever. I checked the connections and everything is running where its supposed to... Does anyone know if there is something I need to do with the reciever so it knows to use the pre-outs?
I'm thinking I just need to do something with my avr but I dunno...
Thanks

are you making sure to use the preouts of your receiver and not the speaker outputs?

Yes, I'm using the pre-outs on the reciever. Right now, I have rca cable from Front L and R, and from the sub. Everything else is running from the speaker outputs...AVR: H/K AVR240
