Upconverting component to HDMI

I just hooked up my XBxox 360 HD DVD player and it will not upconvert standard DVDs over component. Any ideas on how to fix the problem? Any suggestions for a good Upconverting DVD player that will upconvert over component cables? My 65 inch mit supports 1080i but does not have hdmi inputs.

That does the reverse of what you want. It converts VGA or Component video to HDMI.

What you want is something that converts HDMI to Component Video. Good luck in finding it though (you might try China or somewheres else overseas).

This sucks - Otherwise the 65' rear pro HDTV mit has been amazing! The King Kong HD-DVD was amazing compared to 480p on my pioneer elite DVD player!

Your tv wouldn't happen to have a VGA input would it? That would be an easy way around: HDMI -> DVI -> VGA.

If you care to go down this route. For upconverting DVD players search for hacks. I think there might be a hack for one of the oppo players.

Personally, I use my computer to upconvert DVDs and outputover Component Video to my Toshiba rphdtv. I run software to strip the copy protection off, so then my video card lets me output it to Component.

It might work (if it doesn't don't blame me). It is from across the pond, but appears to have both the 50hz (europe) and 60hz (americas) timings in the specs:

Are you sure the 360 doesn't upconvert? There was an update not too long ago, and I could have sworn it now allows upconverting and not just 480p output. I haven't tried it though, so I can't confirm or deny.

OPPO makes a very good upscaling dvd player that upconverts via component video cables..

Or look around for a samsung hd-841 which is the dvd player that I have and it upconverts via component video easily...

Thanks - I bought a hdmi to componet converter that will sit between my receiver and tv. Receiver has hdmi and tv does not Hope it will be delivered on sataurday and Hope it works!
