I have an HK AVR 520 and was thinking about adding a HK PA 5800 5 channel amp with 80 watts per channel. My speakers are Monitor 50s up front with the CS1 for the center. Rears are Monitor 40s. Will this amp sound cleaner and have more power than the AVR 520 or will it be the same since power outage is so close? I like sound of Harmans since they are a litte warm and it smooths out the brightness of the Monitors. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

HK5800 is a pretty respectable amp with a very large toroidal power supply and high current capacity...sounded better than my previous Rotel RMB 1075.....I still have one...sitting in its box for the moment..

Sorry for not replying, I have been busy with school. I did not go with the HK 5800. I am still looking for other amp options though. Will an amp make a big difference over the receiver power with the Monitors? I am picking up an SVS PCi 25-31 to replace my PSW 350. Has anyone that uses the Monitor line heard or used them with external amplification? I know that when I play cd's and have the AVR 520 set on surround off, the extra ten watts per channel seems to make a bit of a difference with the overall sound, more depth and range, it seems. I was thinking that an amp with about 100 watts per channel may really make a difference. I really cant upgrade the speakers yet as I have to get my bachelors degree first. School loans are a killer. Anyway, any advice would be great.

I use a Carver amp with my HK235 (HK makes very good amps too) and I found a difference at louder volumes. The HK is no slouch, but the separate amp helps, especially during higher volumes.

Sorry, I don't have any experience with the monitors though.

Thanks for your reply. I am pleased with the AVR 520 but want to take the strain off of the surround processor and use some external amplifiers. I like the sound of HK's products. They are very warm sounding with nice mids.
