I have to vent...I ripped my entire music collection to an external harddrive for use on my xbox360. I ended up ripping all my CDs using windows media audio lossless format. Everything ripped using the lossless format skips like a crazy ****. I tried a different format and it plays fine. microsoft sucks ****!

That is very strange I have had absolutely no problems with WMA lossless. Do you have the latest version of Windows Media Player?

I think so, its WMP 11. I just redid my computer. Thats part of the reason why I bought the external drive, so i could copy my files while I did a fresh install of windows.

I've ripped my entire collection using WMA Lossless, and I have zero problems with playback, either on the computer or streamed to a 360. Not sure on the specs for usb 1.0 or 2.0. Could you have a bandwidth problem and usb 1.0 port?

I used the 360 to rip some music to its hard drive and that process worked OK.

I think the usb ports on my motherboard are usb 2.0. Not sure about the xbox though. I've tried the 2 ports in the front and the 1 in the rear (enter funny joke) with no luck. The drive in my computer is a new Liteon DVD/CD burner. I tried calling microsoft, but got a bunch of "uhhh, ummm, uhhh, what did you say your problem was again?"

Maybe its the external drive. Its a Western digital Passport. I'm gonna try a jump drive and see if I get the same problem.

UPDATE: Music skips on the jumpdrive also.

    Might not be MS's fault.

My last PC had... bizarre issues with ripping music. I ripped all of my CDs to MP3, and at least half of them came out completely garbled or skipping, and the only Microsoft product involved was Windows 2000. Fast forward, I built a new PC, used the exact same procedure, and no problems.

So... could be something bizarre on your end.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I'm not really blaming microsoft...I just knew that title would get a lot of hits...hehe:D

The hardware in my PC is about 2 years old. The only hardware replaced with this fresh install was the case, Mouse/KB, and Liteon Drive. Maybe the motherboard or harddrive is starting to take a crap...:(

What version of Windows media player are you running. I've only used 11 to rip lossless.

Are you streaming wirelessly to the xbox? Could be a bandwidth issue if you're using wireless b, or interference. Try a different channel on the router, start with either 1 or 11.
