New Member and 5jr question

Hello Polksters.... I've owned Polks forever. One of my first systems was a NAD 7020, JVC LA-11 TT, and a pair Polk Model 7s. I still have the 7s and LA-11, and a pair of Mini-Monitors from back in the day. I used to work for a stereo store as an installer and put more than a few sets of Mini-Monitors in the back of Chevy vans....
I just had my Mini-Monitors refoamed... sweet.
I also have two sets of 5jrs. No such thing as too much gear right?
Now my issue.....
The positive binding post of one of my 5jrs has snapped off, even with the drilled through area. It looks like it might be one solid unit with the crossover.... or can I replace the post alone?
BTW, the mini-monitors are in my kitchen, driven by a Pioneer SX-450. The 7s will be used in my home office, driven by a Marantz 2238b. One pair of 5jrs is at the lake cabin, soon to be driven by a Pioneer SX-650.

Welcome home.
The binding posts can be easily replaced but another option is to change them to gold binding posts. Parts Express sells affordable options and Cardas posts will make you drool.
Remove your speaker cables and four screws holding the terminal cups. Hold the terminal cup and gently pull out. If it bumps against something, tilt until it slides out smoothly towards you. The crossover is attached to this piece and most likely attached with four locking nylon standoffs or four screws. Remove these and carefully tilt the crossover board aside. This will reveal the binding post nuts covered in glue. Remove the glue taking care not to nick or sever the red inductor wire. Place a vise grip or pliers on your broken terminal and unscrew it from the outside.
Measure the width of your good plastic terminal post. Is it blood red and 7/16" or light red and 1/2"? I have both available and can mail the one you need gratis. Contact me at monitor65 at lycos dot com
Since you took the task of refoaming your mini's, know that some of the parts in your crossovers have reached their life expectency and should be replaced. Changing the capacitors and resistors will invigorate them.
Got any pics especially naked ones without the grilles or mini-monitor brochures? -

Excellent directions. This kind of help between here and AudioKarma is getting my vintage gear in great shape.Polk65 wrote:Measure the width of your good plastic terminal post. Blood red.... these were the first of that shade that I had seen. My other Polks were lighter in color. These posts seem to be a bit flimsier.Polk65 wrote:Since you took the task of refoaming your mini's, know that some of the parts in your crossovers have reached their life expectency and should be replaced. One of these days! Really I should do that, and to my vintage Pioneer receivers as well. I'm looking at catalogs, etc, to gather equipment to resolder and recap my gear. I used to do a lot of board level electronics stuff, so I should be able to handle it.Polk65 wrote:Got any pics especially naked ones without the grilles or mini-monitor brochures?

Agreed, the older plastic screws seem stronger. You might enjoy this: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37097

oddly familiar, but STRANGE.
I'll post up pictures of mine next week. I have the "optional mounting kit" installed. Sadly, they are a bit beat up but sound great.Kitchen: NAD 7220PE, Polk Mini-Monitor
