Question on a receiver...

Hey guys,
I'm very new in the home theater area and am looking to put together a very nice system. I was looking at the JVC RXD702B receiver because it seems like a great bang for the buck. I am basically looking for a receiver that has a good wattage per channel and supports hdmi. I am looking to eventually build a 7.1 system using Polk speakers. I am very interested in the Rti line and want to make sure the receiver i buy will power them without problems. Any suggestions for a good receiver that's 600 or under?
Thanks!

I haven't read much about the new digital amps in JVCs new receiver lineup. I would suppose that you would be okay driving the RTi series up to the RTi8. The RTi10s and RTi12s are too demanding to drive at loud volumes or for full range use with most receivers.
For your $600 budget, you can get a number of nice receivers from Harman Kardon, Denon, Pioneer and Onkyo that would suit your needs. Most members here on ClubPolk suggest that whatever brand you go with, get a model that has preamp outputs for using with external amps in the future.
I started with a JVC receiver for HT year ago and found that the 100wpc rating they claim was more like 60wpc. The receiver would go into protect mode when driving RTi 70 towers hard at full range. I switched to Harman Kardon 7200 rated the same as the JVC, finding it to put out almost twice the power as the JVC.HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

Thanks for the input Dennis. I started looking into Denon and spotted the AVR-2807. It's a couple hundred more, but it seems packed with features. Any idea on the performance of that receiver?

I am probably going to get this and a Rotel 500X2 amp to drive the RTI-10's when I have the money.Everything I own burned in the fire!!!!!!!!!! -
Denon's 2807 is really nice and would make a good match with RTis. The receiver linked by HT is top notch too. You can never go wrong with the Elite line by Pioneer.HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

Denon make excellent receivers that give you a lot for your money! And the 2807 has preouts!!!Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

I agree, go with the Denon.
Don't pay much attention to the wattage ratings on those JVC receivers, they're pretty much meaningless. A 45-WPC rated receiver from Harman/Kardon or Denon would blow away a 90-watt from JVC or Sony.If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
Sounds like i'll be going with the Denon then. Thanks for all the help guys

well, if your loaded you can get Parasound or B&K or Rotel seperates and then you will have a really really really nice system.
if you are a gazzillionare, oh, Meridan, Krell has some nice stuff.
Or one of these companies receivers are a cut above the ordinary.

Unfortunately I am not loaded, but thanks RT1!
