RTi10 Tweeter Blown

I believe I have a blown RTi10 Tweeter. While I wait to resolve this with Customer Service I'd like to swap it with the Tweeter from an RTi4 I don't use much, they look the same. My question is are they the same tweeter or am I risking blowing the RTi4 tweeter? Also could the cause of the blown tweeter be the cross-over? What a time to blow a speaker, I was just ramping up for a holiday weekend. Just curious, I have a Yamaha 2600 receiver and have never turned it up past mid scale, normally about -30 to -20 tops. I hope this is not going to be an on going problem?

2 hours later....Go figure, I just swapped the tweeter with the RTi4, they have the same part number, and they both now work. I swapped them back and they both still work. Yikes! I spent an hour in panic trying to retrieve the high end. I think I've got gremlins.

Polk, please accept my apology for the negative post. The RTi10’s really do rock and are worth every cent I paid.

I think you need to turn it down or start saving for a separate amplifier.

Willow, did you even read the original post?

    The first questions was:
"I'd like to swap it with the Tweeter from an RTi4 I don't use much, they look the same. My question is, are they the same tweeter or am I risking blowing the RTi4 tweeter?"

    The second question was:
Also could the cause of the blown tweeter be the cross-over?

I also said It wasn't, and hasn't been played at high volume.

The responses sounded more like Vultures attempting to pick at and beat someone down that has a blown tweeter. Thus, having no relevance to the original questions.

And the YAMAHA RX-V2600 is very close (2-3% +/-) of rated power

sound and vision mag bench test:

    Yamaha RX-V2600
    DOLBY DIGITAL PERFORMANCE
All data were obtained from various test DVDs using 16-bit dithered test signals, which set limits on measured distortion and noise performance. Reference input level is –20 dBFS, and reference output is 1 watt into 8 ohms. Volume setting for reference level was –7. All level trims were at zero, except for subwoofer-related tests; all speakers were set to "large," subwoofer on. All are worst-case figures where applicable.

Output at clipping (1 kHz into 8/4 ohms)
    1 channel driven: 196/297* W (22.9/24.7* dBW)
    5 channels driven (8 ohms): 121 W (20.8 dBW)
    6 channels driven (8 ohms): 119 W (20.8 dBW)

    Distortion at 1 watt (THD+N, 1 kHz)
    8/4 ohms: 0.02/0.03%
    Noise level (A-wtd): –75.7 dB
    Excess noise (with sine tone)
    16-bit (EN16): +0.6 dB
Frequency response: 20 Hz to 20 kHz +0.7, –0.1 dB

    * Speaker-impedance setup switch set to 8-ohm position; 210 watts into 4 ohms with switch at 6-ohm position

    MULTICHANNEL PERFORMANCE, ANALOG INPUT
Reference input and output level is 200 mV; volume setting for reference output level was –18.
    Distortion (THD+N, 1 kHz, 8 ohms): 0.02%
    Noise level (A-wtd): –89.9 dB
Frequency response: <10 Hz to 200 kHz +0, –1.8 dB

    STEREO PERFORMANCE, DIGITAL INPUT
Reference level is –20 dBFS; all level trims at zero. Volume setting for reference level was –3.
Output at clipping (1 kHz, 8/4 ohms, both channels driven): 160/241 W (22.0/23.8 dBW)
    Distortion at reference level: 0.02%
Linearity error (at –90 dBFS): 0 dB
    Noise level (A-wtd): –75.4 dB
    with 96-kHz/24-bit signals: –85.4 dB
    Excess noise (with/without sine tone)
    16-bit (EN16): 0.35/0.25 dB
    quasi-20-bit (EN20): 8.4/9.4 dB
    Noise modulation: 0.2 dB
Frequency response: 20 Hz to 20 kHz +0, –0.2 dB
    with 96-kHz/24-bit signals: 20 Hz to 43.1 kHz +0, –3 dB

    * Speaker-impedance setup switch set to 8-ohm position; 197 watts into 4 ohms with switch at 6-ohm position

Id put a 60 watt Adcom over the Yamaha receiver amp section anyday....
    - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

I've read the Sound and Vision review. Audioholics has a one to. The RX-V2600 is a nice piece of hardware with excellent numbers and like the RTi10's an exceptional value (on sale). I'd think it would be difficult to find a comparable 7/1 preamp and separate amps of this quality for 1K, not to mention the Video section.
