It's all about money....
While Jackson hasn't said how much he believes he was underpaid, The New York Times last year quoted his lawyers as saying it was as much as $100 million. He is suing New Line Cinema over the shortfall. -
I guess its kind of hard to work for someone while suing them at the same time.

Bummer! Throughout my life I have read the trilogy & the hobbit six different times. He did a marvelous job on the trilogy. I hope that the hobbit is done right also. It would be a down right disgrace if they screwed that up.
Edit: Just another thought. If you loved reading Lord of the Rings, try picking up a copy of Piers Anthony's "Battle Circle." It will keep you as enthralled as the Tolkien masterpieces. -
He did a great job with LOTR, but it doesn't mean someone else can't do a great job with the Hobbit. There's plenty of great directors out there. If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

More than likely some hack that never read the books or understands the concepts gets the nod. Hollywood seldom gets it.
These movies worked because he was able to capture most of the spirit of the books without everyone stopping to break out in singing!"The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -

I agree. They'll find someone who can do close to the same job if not the same or better. I'm not too worried about it. The story is too good. I doubt that the producers will put a hack in the director's chair considering the amount of money they'll be spending and the money that could/should be made from it."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

DAMN!!!!!! I read the books and thought the movies were a perfect match. This could go either way. We'll just have to wait and see.I always thought "THE HOBBIT" was the best story out of the 4.Michael

It's kind of hard to replicate a masterful vision. I'm not saying it can't be done, but people fell in love with the LOTR movies because of the vision Peter Jackson put into them. I don't think the story told in the books alone allowed just anyone lucky enough to get the gig the ability to pull it off. The books were great, and so were the movies. That doesn't happen very often. The LOTR trilogy was extremely detailed and well thought out.
I am disappointed, and not as optimistic as I was since Jackson isn't behind it.
