For $200 more I would get the RCD-1072 - users on Audiogon have stated this to be a very good CDP. I have the RCC-1055 (changer version of 1072) and am very pleased with it.[

I've never heard the RCD 1070, but I have the 1072! It is an outstanding player & got the same kind of reviews that my old RCD 855 got. Which said that it was a worthy sucessor to the 855.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

Thanks miner but locally i would need to save $500 or $600 more to get the RCD1072 hence I am trying to weight my options carefully. i dont have lots of cheese to spend but i would like to own the hi endish stuff whatever that means. what i need to know in particullar was that are differences in the player so big its night and day which would justify in my case the extra $600? i still intend on buying the RC1070 and RB1070 in the long run.(((((STEREO)))))

You should really consider the 1072. It compares very favorably to my Bel Canto DAC2. I know if I had bought the Bel Canto after the 1072, I would have been rather disappointed. Take that for what's it's worth.
Drink some Pinotage for me, please.
